I have ASRock X399 Gaming and AMD Threadripper 1950X. My Windows 10 1803 worked well with BIOS P2.0. After upgrading BIOS from P2.0 to P2.1 (bridge BIOS) and finally P3.1, I'm seeing error 0x80090016 in several store apps in Windows 10. I cannot even sign in with my Microsoft account in Windows 10's feedback hub app because of the error.
During BIOS upgrade, Instant Flash prompted me to turn off AMD fTPM and I did it. After BIOS upgrade is done, I re-enabled AMD fTPM. During the first boot, Windows asked me to enter Bitlocker recovery key and I did it too. It looks like error 0x80090016 is related to cryptography. Could it be related to AMD fTPM or whatever caused Bitlocker recovery? |

Unfortunately my machine has been re-imaged. I highly suspect AMD fTPM was reset during BIOS upgrade due to the fact Bitlocker entered recovery mode. And I guess this is a combination of TPM and Windows issue. Windows should be more resilient to TPM related changes.

TPM is basically a trainwreck. It might have been someones lovechild, but its way too risky to use it and hope it is consistent from OS to OS, mobo to mobo, and even TPM implementation from different chip and computer vendors. It might be ok for data center computers that live a consistent life until they die, but for desktops, its just asking for trouble. And Bitlocker is rife with issues around upgrades and changes. I learned my lesson. never again
