" rel="nofollow - I recently purchased this motherboard:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012D7GV78/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I installed an i7-6700k processor, a Noctua NH-D15 heatsink and fans, and 2 Corsair LPX 2x16gb memory sticks. I get the system to boot fine and installed windows with no issues. The Rest of the system are parts from my previous system (Corsair HX850W PSU and an EVGA 960 video card in an Antec 1200 case for example). Problem I have is if I shut it down, soft reboot, or hit the reset button the system powers up but I get no post. I have to turn off the PSU switch to cut all power to the board before I turn it back on and hit the power button then it powers up and posts/boots fine. I've tried the video cable into both the motherboard without the video card installed or into either with the video card installed to try to eliminate any variables. All the old parts worked fine before upgrading the system.
When I try to reboot or start it up and it doesn't post the code on the board gets stuck at 55. Any idea what could be causing this? Would a bios update fix the problem? Is this a known issue with this board? Would really hate to have to disassemble it all and RMA it or return it if its something I can fix. Very aggravating issue that while I can work around I really don't want to have to.

" rel="nofollow - 55 represents a memory issue.
First, go to the below and check that the memory you have is deemed compatible by Corsair with your MB.
EDIT: Ha! It'd help if I put the link I referred to here huh? http://www.corsair.com/en-us/memory-finder
Otherwise you have enable Fast Start. In that case go to your MB's d/l pages and install Restart to UEFI. That "halts' Fast Start and shows the POST process so that you may enter the BIOS upon restarting.

Your problem is not a known issue with this board. I have this board, and mine does not do what you described.
Your board is this model: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Extreme7+/" rel="nofollow - http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Extreme7+/
What UEFI/BIOS version are you using?
We need the full model number of your memory to check for compatibility, which you could check with the link wardog provided, or check the Memory Support list on your board's information page, above.
No idea what speed your memory is, the greater the memory capacity being used, the more difficult it is for the CPU's memory controller to deal with. Are you using the XMP profile?
DIMMs greater than 4GB in size should be used in the A1 and B1 slots.
What version of Windows are you using?
In the UEFI/BIOS, OC Tweaker, DRAM Configuration screen, all the way at the bottom of the screen, setting the MRC Fast Boot option to Disabled. That will cause memory training to occur during POST, which may help with the 55 POST code.

At work so I apologize for lack of information. I'm running Windows 10, the ram is in the furthest left and 3rd from left slots, and the type of ram is 3200mhz lpx:
Corsair LPX 32GB 2 x 16GB Memory https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016ORTNI2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_iwDuyb0N86MYM" rel="nofollow - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016ORTNI2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_iwDuyb0N86MYM
I purchased 2 more sticks so I'll be populating all the slots once I install the other 2. I've tried setting the ram to default setting and to the 3200mhz setting but haven't tried much else as it seemed to be working properly since it would post and run in the scenario I described. I'll try out the suggestions and look more into that when I get home. I'll also check the approved list once I get home and can double check the specific model number on the packaging of the ram.
Thank you for the help everyone.

Looks like my type and speed of memory is supported up to 8gb sticks but the 16GB sticks aren't listed. Could be not labeled as compatible or they just haven't updated the list since the 16gb chips have come out I don't know.

Yea, shoot 'em an email through Tech Support and inquire of compatibility.
Keep us posted when they reply please.

Yeah they are in A1 and B1. Too tired tonight. Will test out some of the suggestions in the next few days. 12 hour days and an hour commute drain the energy out of me.

And did send them a ticket asking about the compatibility. Should get back to me in a day or two.

Corsair said they're not listed on the QVL list so they can't recommend them. My ram didn't come up when I went through Corsair's compatibility checker but when I searched for ram by board on their website it was listed. Really seems like they're passing the buck on this.

One name. G.Skill.
They don't pass the buck. You have questions, they have answers.
Here's the link to memory that G.Skill themselves have tested on your MB. Compatibility is guaranteed. http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator?manu=52&chip=2484&model=2512

Yeah I was looking to go with them but for the speed of memory and size I needed to fit under the heatsink coupled with price I opted for corsair even if I prefer g skill or crucial. Talked to someone on the phone and he sounded like he thought given my circumstances they'd be willing and able to take of me if I can't find a fix in the bios settings. Will try to figure it out this weekend.

Tried changing the settings for the ram and switched fast boot to off and on (did not try ultra fast boot as it said I'd be unable to get back into the bios without doing something extra (can't remember exact description but it didn't sound like it would help). No change. I'll mess with it some more tonight and take it down to one stick of memory and see if that changes anything (didn't want to have to take off one of the heatsink fans if I could avoid it).

After doing that I can get the system to reboot and turn on normal at speed 2133 or 2800 (only other speeds I have tried). After trying to set the memory back to use the XMP profile (it does recognize the correct profile), manually setting it to the correct settings, or setting everything to auto but at 3200 speed it still won't reboot correctly. That's with both sticks still in and in slots A1 and B1. Probably won't get around to throwing in the other 2 sticks till the weekend I'm guessing. At least I can get it to reboot correctly for now with slightly faster ram. If I can keep it at those settings with the other 32gb in I'll probably live with it. Tried upping my CPU clock speed to 4.5ghz and seems stable to far also. During all testing I was putting my CPU back to default (only upped the multiplier for the overclock).
What software can I use to access the bios while in windows 10 and see my processor temperature? About to see if Asrock has utilities available but though you guys might know off hand.

Looks like the bios update fixed almost everything. Haven't thrown the other 2 sticks of ram in yet but everything else is working (4.5ghz overclock and ram at 3200). Only other issue that started up before I updated the bios (so I know that wasn't it) is the bios freezes up sometimes for 10-30 seconds. Only ever locked up on me once and that was pre-update but worked after a reboot. I've read other people have had this problem as well but if the ram works once I get it all in then hopefully I'll not have to worry about going into the bios again anytime soon.
Sorry I should have checked the bios version to start with but I'd never heard of a bios fixing ram compatibility issues before. Glad someone suggested it. Haven't built a system in 4 or 5 years and really doing so worries me from horror stories from back in the day.

And you might probably should drop back to the latest non 7.xx BIOS, 3.10, as the 7.xx ones address the as of yet unreleased Kaby Lake processors.

You had an over one year old UEFI version, and there have been some important updates since then.
Memory compatibility improvements are common in UEFI updates now. There are two memory compatibility updates since version 2.10, you have all of them now. DDR4 memory is still in its childhood, only two PC platforms currently support it, Intel X99 and Intel 100 series chipset boards, like your Z170. That will change in 2017.
If and when you put your other DIMMs in the board, I suggest you do this: First save your current UEFI settings in a profile, which is done in the OC Tweaker page. Then shutdown the PC, remove AC power, open it up and insert you other DIMMs. Use the jumper on the board to clear UEFI/BIOS, put it back in the normal position, put it all back together and start it up. After the UEFI clear, ALL the options will be back to there default settings, so you'll need to restore them manually or with the saved profile. I suggest trying all your memory at its default speed first, which is most likely 2133, which will be set by default.
If the PC boots with all the memory at 2133, use it for a while like that, and then try to increase the speed. Normally, the more memory used, the more difficult it is to operate it at high speeds. You can see that shown in your boards Memory Support List. At the highest memory speeds, only two DIMMs can usually be used, but that is at speeds above 3200. You may not reach 3200 with all your memory, or it will take some adjustment to get it there, or close to it.

" rel="nofollow - Thanks for the advice. Will definitely follow it. Unless I have further problems I don't think I'll reflash it to an older version. Again horror memories from flashing going wrong from many years ago makes me want to not do any more flashing than absolutely necessary. What would be the benefit of going to an older version out of curiosity?

The latest 7.30 UEFI has both an updated MEI and IRST ROM for those of us running RAID and m.2 devices. Also the ASRock site has new motherboard drivers to support the changes to the UEFI.

Good to know. I don't use raid in my main rig (Leave that job to my server and NAS). I was thinking of getting an M.2 SSD but decided to be happy with the 500gb SSD I have now and wait till prices come down and size goes up some to get one of those. Will keep the drivers in mind for when I do get one eventually. Honestly this system is overkill for what I usually do which is why I have been dealing with my server video card for longer than I should (have my server's 960gtx in the rig right now till I RMA my 980gtx). Hopefully other than the video card I'll be able to get another 4-5+ years out of this setup.

Got the other 2 sticks installed and everything seems to be running smooth. If any problems happens I'll post here to let people know there might be some compatibility issues but otherwise looks like this board fully supports these sticks in 2 or 4 stick configurations once the bios is updated. Was going to post a pic of the Asrock tuning app open but I've never bothered to learn to use imgur or other online hosting sites so unless someone has an interest or knows how I can post a jpg file easily you'll have to take my word for it.

And just for fun I tried upping the processor speed to 5.0ghz and it booted fine but locked going into windows. I'll get around to trying to overclock it more sometime but 4.5ghz will keep me happy for a while.
