" rel="nofollow - Hi, so I have a problem with my headset microphone as it doesn't pick up any sounds, but white noise and was told that it's not compatible with the HD audio and to flash my motherboard to AC'97. I had a look at the website and asked uncle google, but couldn't find any links or drivers. So is there an option to actually to do it?

Bah. You don't need to flash anything.
HD Audio panels and AC'97 panels are physically the same. It's in how they get wired that determines each.
Once again here, the User Manual to the rescue.
See the #2 in the gray shaded area/section at the top of pg23
Post back if you need further assistance _OR_ Post back the results when you're done.
Edit HD Audio panes to HD Audio panels

" rel="nofollow - Oh okay. Do you have any idea why the microphone doesn't work? It's connected via 3.5 mm jack, tested on other machines and it works, also used a different headset with a jack and it didn't work either. An USB mic works.

It would help immensely if we knew what Mic you have

It's a Steelseries Siberia V2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Headset-Microphone/dp/B002Q8IHDQ" rel="nofollow - https://www.amazon.co.uk/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Headset-Microphone/dp/B002Q8IHDQ . Everything is connected as it should, tried everything I can possible think of.
Having a separate USB mic is really uncomfortable and the only option I'm left at he moment is getting a new USB headset, it seems.

I'm baffled. I just looked up down, and under the steelseries.com website and I can't find sh*t on a Siberia v2.
Now it's time for you to help me locate a manual for these

I have the same headset,...it is all analog. It has two mini jacks one with pink stripes and the other has green stripes, a square pad with rotating volume control and an on/off mic switch. To test plug the green stripped mini jack into the back of your computer into the green female jack (headset audio). Plug the pink stripped mini jack into the back panel of your computer in to the pink female jack (mic) and slide the square slider up towards the headset (on). volume increase is also up towards the headset.
P.S. At the back of your computer the green and pink jacks are next to eachother.
BTW. you may have to uninstall your usb mic or disable it as it may overide the SS V2 headset mic in WIndows sound control panel.
If this doesn't work you will have to follow wardog's advice and check your motherboard to front panel connections,...you will need your computer case manual to know where to put the front panel connectors.

I've tried the back panel and it doesn't work either. I have gone through all the obvious solution, hence why I'm seeking help everywhere else now. All the connections are connected as they should be. The USB microphone didn't require any drivers, it's just a cheap one I found on eBay. Thanks for the replies anyway.

Thanks clubfoot. A Thanks for that.
Dijok, guess that means you'll be rearranging the cases audio panel wiring to the MB.

If the mic and headset do not work on the rear panel you will need to disconnect the front panel audio connection to the motherboard,...it is "shorting" the audio chipset. OR,...you have a defective headset,...probably with damaged wires.

" rel="nofollow - AC'97 is not supported by your board's audio chip, and your PC case would need to have an AC'97 connector on it if the board's audio chip supported AC'97.
AC'97 is an old audio connection protocol, not used on new boards for a while now. New PC cases don't even have an AC'97 connector on the front panel audio cable. Whomever told you, you need AC'97 had no idea what they were talking about.
Have you installed you board's audio software, and configured the microphone and headset inputs in it?
Also, the Windows Sound feature in Control Panel should at least be checked, and possibly configured.
If none of that works, as said above, your headset may simply be broken. Usually it is the micro-cable into the connectors.

Not sure, I tried the latest Realtek Driver (R2.81 from 2017/1/13)and the one on ASRock Website ( from 7/29/2015 )for my mb.
The headset works (be it front or back panel), it's just the mic that doesn't, the PC recognises that a microphone has been plugged in, but it doesn't pick up any voices, just white noise. And both the headset and microphone work on other machines.

Good, you've eliminated the headset as defective. On the desktop, right click the speaker icon and select Recording devices and check to see that the mic has a green checkmark,...if not set it to default! Click properties and set the volume to 100% and boost to +20. OK. Select configure, set up microphone, headset microphone and follow the prompts. Windows will automatically adjust the levels.
P.S. make sure the mic switch on the headphone cord is turned ON!!!
With the latest RealTek drivers in the recording tab you can enable noise suppression and echo cancellation.

Nice case :) Well I'm stumped.
Your board has an HD AUDIO connector at the bottom left (item #26 in your manual) and your case has a prepinned HD AUDIO connector that can only be installed one way.
The headset and mic both work on other computers,...so it's down to the motherboard or case wiring.
I don't have access to your motherboard UEFI but I just checked my UEFI and there is an option in the chipset menu to change the audio from HD to AC'97,...for backward compatability. Please check your UEFI to ensure it is set to HD AND the front panel audio connector is connected on all the motherboard pins.

Thanks. Had the motherboard replaced, so it can't be the motherboard either. My cousin has the same case, same wiring and his works just fine. In the UEFI settings all of the sound settings are either Auto or disable, tried every combination and nothing. Guess, I'm gonna have to get an USB headset. Thanks for all the help guys.

In an act of desperation check to make sure the header is wired correctly with your cousin's.
