" rel="nofollow - I updated my BIOS from 1.44 to 2.2 (1.5 UEFI) and afterwards i did not post or boot.

- I tried to supply 2.2 and 1.44 Bios Via USB stick.

After this i was tining it may be my fault for doing it wrong. So i got a second AsRock AB350 Pro 4.
Moved all hardware to 1.3Bios all working.

Flashed 2.2 same result no post/boot.

- is there a way to recover from this.
- Can i connect to BIOS_PH and flash via SPI ? I have some Flash tools and a Rasbery PI.

CPU Ryzen 1700
RAM 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4-2400 DIMM CL10 Dual Kit (CMD16GX4M2B2400C10)

System was working on
-1.3 (Stock) working
-1.43 working
-1.44 working
-2.2 no post

Now i have 2 no post ASrock AB350 Pro 4 this is a a real bummer.

Ouch...I am sorry about that. I was just about to update...looks like ill hold off until they fix this.

I dont think they have a removable bios on this board, you may have to RMA. I believe since it was an official bios they will replace it.

" rel="nofollow - Glad I read this.  Sorry that you took the bullet for us but I planned to finish up my build tonight and certainly would have updated to the latest BIOS in the process.

Can I ask if you went with the DOS or Instant Flash method?

I decided to try the Windows BIOS flash on the AB350 Fatality gaming kit motherboard last night after the build was done.  While it was running I kept all of my fingers and toes crossed :)

The process completed without issue.

Unfortunately the only thing you can do without voiding warranty is RMA. I wouldn't advise trying to manually flash your board, if it does not work your warranty my not be honored. If it was a removable ROM then I would say go for it but in this instance I am not sure what the policy is.

I updated the BIOS (From within the BIOS) on out B350 Fatality K4 to 2.20. I have not tested any of the new features, but it boots in to Windows 10 with no issues.

No problem here to update from 1.44 to 2.2 by the bios (copy file on usb key, go to bios)

With the bios 1.44 my  RAM G.Skill Ripjaws V Kit 2x8GB DDR4-3200 CL16-18-18-38 (F4-3200C16D-16GVKB) was limited @2133 11-11-11-28

With the bios 2.2 it boot on @2400 12-13-13-32

I just built my Ryzen 1700 with Fatal1ty B350 and updated it from via UEFI from 1.40 to 2.20 and it is now bricked.  The fans keep spinning up and no post.  The system just keeps resetting and repeating the cycle.  I am extremely upset that ASRock released faulty Bios.  I called MicroCenter where I bought my board and they will swap it out for me.

I will be keeping the STOCK Bios until ASRock can address this issue in mass.  Others on Reddit are saying other board manufacturers are have the same issue.

Thanks for all the info guys, I am sure it will be helpful to the guys and gals at ASRock trying to get all this sorted.

Ryzen is the biggest clean slate release we have seen in over a decade and it has not gone smoothly. "Teething issues" does not even come close to describing how much needs to be done by board partners, memory manufacturers and software developers to get things all smoothed out and wrinkle free. Every post we see here and elsewhere helps pin down issues and bring us closer to that end.

Thank you all for your immense patience and helpful comments. You guys really are the best Beer

" rel="nofollow - I would be willing to test Bios release for you if I could have a board on standby.  I really want to run 2.20 as it adds patches for XMP profiles and Boost fixes.  Can anyone confirm if the BETA Bios 1.44 is stable?

TB that is EXACTLY what my board is doing. Same board, same cpu. Asrock has offered to replace it but newegg is already handling it. I think ill be waiting on bios updates for a few months. Extremely frustrating spending all that time building and having to tear it all back apart.

2.22 Beta is stable so far.  I was able to successfully flash this via Instant Flash Utility in UEFI.

Ryzen is far from a mature system at this point, and updates from AMD are coming constantly.

For example, and you may have no way of knowing this, but this is from the description for UEFI version 2.20:

Update AGESA code

AGESA code comes from AMD, and is included in the UEFI/BIOS. A UEFI/BIOS contains many things from the processor/chipset manufacture, Option ROMs, CPU microcode, etc. A mother board manufacture does not create these things themselves, they can only include what they are given by the processor/chipset manufacture, and hope it works. AMD wants these things to be included in a board's UEFI, and may even require it. As said above, ASRock is not the only manufacture having issues with these updates.

Yes it is not a good situation, and users tend to blame the board manufacture. Please understand that the mother board manufactures are struggling with these updates themselves. Memory compatibility with Ryzen is a major issue currently. For example the XMP profiles used with pre-Ryzen DDR4 memory has been designed for the only systems that use it, Intel's X99 and their 100 and 200 series chipset boards. The Ryzen memory controller (part of the CPU) is not compatible with this XMP data. Memory manufactures have been slow to provide Ryzen specific memory models, and really don't like having products that can be used only with one platform. Actually, the XMP profiles used for X99 systems did not work well with the 100 and 200 series chipset boards. DDR4 compatibility is turning into a mess.

I know this is frustrating, I can only use my G.SKILL FlareX 3200 memory, designed for Ryzen, at 2400 with my X370 Killer SLI/ac board. We just want you to know that the mother board manufactures are not the only ones responsible for issues like this.

I've killed my AB350 Pro4 while trying to update from 1.30 to 2.22 Bios (from Windows).
The only thing that get it back it to life was to desolder Bios chip and reprogram it on external programmer.
Btw 2.22 works just fine and without any issues so far.

I was super excited about ryzen5. Oh well :( now i must wait easter out, send board, wait for a new one.. such is life! Do you guys know if its safer to update bios from the bios using a USB key?

It supposedly is the "best" way to do it...but I managed to brick a K4 using the recommended "instant flash" method from with a flash drive in the BIOS so...

I guess your mileage may vary.

the safest way to update bios is in the bios using the flash utility
(windows method should be removed from user options)
always reset the bios to default before flashing a new bios as well

It depends on what version Bios your board comes with. My first board was bricked after update to 2.20 from 1.30 via Windows. I got a free replacement board from MicroCenter and updated it from 1.30 to 1.40 via Windows then used the "Instant Flash" via UEFI which is added after you update to 1.40 to then flash again to 2.22 Beta.

I know that seems like a lot of steps but that is how I got mine updated. Always use UEFI to update bios via USB Drive.

When I get my replacement board hopefully this week, i will USB flash from 1.3 to whatever the latest version will be this week. If it bricks again, I'll be getting a different mobo

Ok so I need to risk bricking a second motherboard in order to install 1.44 from windows. Lots of people still bricked their motherboards when updating from 1.44 to 2.22 via UEFI.. im now really frustrated with this. Its turning out to be a nightmare. I should be receiving my second ab350 pro4 this week. Im tired of waiting

As was said earlier in this thread, by a random forum member, most if not all mother board manufactures have had situations where a UEFI/BIOS update caused the board to fail to POST. At least part of the blame is with AMD, that released the Ryzen processors before mother board manufactures had adequate time, and support from AMD, to provide solid UEFI/BIOS's for their products. Believe me, this is a nightmare for the mother board manufactures too.

Your new board may not have the 1.40 UEFI installed from the factory, given the limited availability of Ryzen boards at Ryzen's launch. I'm sure ASRock puts the latest UEFI version on any current production boards from the factory. Of course what stock your retailer has is impossible to predict.

May I ask whom your retailer or source of your board is? The UEFI version from the factory is printed on a label on the UEFI chip, which on your board is right above the PCIE1 slot.

I don't understand why using the DOS UEFI/BIOS update method is ignored when the Windows method is known to fail for some users. The DOS update method actually runs Instant Flash.

Creating a bootable USB flash drive is simple. Here's a link to a guide which contains a link to the Rufus tool for creating the bootable USB flash drive:

https://www.howtogeek.com/136987/how-to-create-a-bootable-dos-usb-drive/" rel="nofollow - https://www.howtogeek.com/136987/how-to-create-a-bootable-dos-usb-drive/

Be sure to connect the USB flash drive to a USB port on the board's IO panel. A USB 3.0 port is fine to use with Windows 8.1 or 10, but may not work with Windows 7. Also, USB flash drives larger than 16GB may not work correctly.

The DOS update download has an information link on the word DOS that opens an instruction page about using the DOS method. For example:

http://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSIG.asp?cat=DOS8

I have used Instant Flash to update the UEFI/BIOS of many ASRock boards. I also try every UEFI version available, including Beta versions, since I'm a moderator. I can honestly say I have never had an Instant Flash update fail or brick a board. Some of the boards I use have had over 10 updates.

I've only had my ASRock Ryzen board (X370 Killer SLI/ac) for two weeks, and it had a UEFI version installed that included Instant Flash. I've updated the UEFI twice using Instant Flash, really four times as I changed to an earlier version, and then back to the latest one again. I'm using that PC now, no problems using Instant Flash.

I upgraded to 2.20 on the AB350 Pro4.

Before the upgrade the system would beep three times, pause, restart a total of four times with the same beep pattern. It then would beep once, reset, and then it managed, finally, to do one more normal sounding beep and then post and boot.

After the BIOS upgrade it just hangs after the last beep.

I've got Corsair Vengeance LPX ddr4-3200 RAM, if that makes any difference (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16W).

UPDATE: After clearing the CMOS I was able to POST. It turns out I was too eager to get my RAM working at 3200MHz and I enabled that XMP profile. Clearing the CMOS reverted my RAM to 2100MHz and now it boots normally.

" rel="nofollow - I flashed using usb Bios instant flash method. I think it's much safer. Bios/UEFI picked up my usb flash drive which I formatted into fat32 instantly with v2.2 (from v1.4 to v2.2) no problem. The only problem I'm having is my RAM is on default 2133. I got (2x8) Corsair DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Timing 15-17-17-35 Cas Latency 15, Voltage 1.35V. It's on motherboard QVL list. But it only works at 2133mhz. Is there some other timing that I can try? I tried a-xmp profile at 2933 but it failed...keeps booting in circles.
Yeah I would def flash with-in Bios/UEFI. Because there is so many other things going on in a live windows environment. At least in Bios environment there's no interruptions of any sorts. It's simplicity at best.

" rel="nofollow - Oh btw speaking of RAMs
I have ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4

Corsair: CMK16GX4M2B3000C15
DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000)
Timing 15-17-17-35
Cas Latency 15
Voltage 1.35V

I can only get it to work in 2133, for some reason it wouldn't do 2933. Not even A-XMP profile mode.

I have 2 sticks of ddr4. The manual was little confusing in terms of DDR configuration.

I have mine in as: A2+B2 Dimms...is this right???
I think someone in youtube had it A2+B1, should I try it in this config???

" rel="nofollow - Thanks for your reply parsec. Basically, after using rufus to set up a dos bootable usb, all i have to do is copy the files that i get from asrock's ab350pro4 motherboard page (bios via DOS) into the dos bootable usb (simple copy paste). After that, boot into usb and take it from there...

If my mobo comes with bios 1.2 (non UEFI), should i install 1.44 first via dos bootable usb, and only then install 2.20 via UEFI?
Or should i directly install 2.20 from 1.2 using dos bootable usb?

Im leaning towards installing 1.44 first via dos usb, and then 2.20 via uefi.

My retailer is newegg canada. After my RMA, they were out of stock (newegg stock). Luckily, they got the stock from another retailer (ambercne). I ended up converting replacement RMA to refund RMA, and re-ordering the pro4 mobo (20$ more expensive this time). So far, i lost some 45$ on shipping back and forth which isnt reimbursed by newegg. I really wonder why asrock didnt just make a bios with UEFI in the first place. Anger *takes deep breath*

Hey guys

Just received my second pro4. Strangely, i didnt need to reinstall windows. Somehow the windows version i installed on the previous mobo works with this one. I guess thats cool.

Tried installing sound drivers, PC froze. Tried install nvidia drivers for my gtx1050ti, says doesnt recognize windows version.

Im going to wait for a reply from the gentleman that advised me to flash via dos usb bootable. Im considering flashing to 1.44, then 2.20. The board came with bios version 1.3

Hey parsec
I made a bootable dos usb using rufus. However, when i type the file name of the bios, it doesnt do anything. I tried combinations of things, including .exe, AB35P4_140 ... doesnt do anything. Im going to try with version 2.20 AB35P4_220

After rufus puts necessary files in the usb key, I simply copy paste the file that came from asrock's DOS folder ... the asrock instructions say i should put the .exe ... basically ive tried every possible combination. Its a no go

Edit: had to replace underscore with ~
I am gonna attempt going from 1.3 to 2.20

Parsec, thanks so much for your help!!!! I flashed bios to 2.20... however, i still cannot boot when ram is set to anything above 2166... for now its ok, i just want to run some games to see how stable this is. Huge weight lifted off my shoulders! Thanks so much

I have resolved so from BIOS 1.30: flash bios 1.40 with a bootable USB by renaming it "update". Then from the bios it recognizes the 2.50 automatically because utility appears.
All of the ways here I recommended did not work.
