    Posted: 24 Jul 2019 at 10:51am
I have the X470 Master SLI/ac with the 3700x. I recently purchased ASRock's RX 5700xt video card. Initially I kept getting reboots after installing drivers. First attempt finished with my screen turning a green hue and then my setup rebooted.

After several unwanted reboots I remembered reading about changing PCIe settings from 4.0 to 3.0 helped Destiny 2 not working .. soo I fished around in my BIOS (rev 3.30) and saw 2 PCIe type settings for Auto/Gen 1/Gen 2 .. I changed them both to Gen 2 and now no more reboots and I have been gaming without issue.

My question is .. first, why did I have to do this to begin with .. and second, what exactly does Gen 2 put at as far as PCIe specs?

OMG, you sound like you are having the exact same issue as me which I posted about on here a few days ago. I only tried changing the PCIe Switch to Gen2 and it didn't do anything. I didn't think to try to change the other one because I didn't know what it does. I also cannot find any information as to what Gen1/2/Auto is, which is really annoying. My suspicion is that the driver and/or motherboard is trying to force PCIe 4.0 and this is why the driver won't install.

As far as what Gen2 affects, can you check in Adrenalin what your current PCIe Bus Setting is at? If it says 3.0 that is a good sign.

So there are three areas where I can change PCIe speed settings on my X470 Gaming ITX/ac motherboard BIOS with AGESA 1.0.0.1.

1: AMD CBS\NBIO Common Options\Force PCIe gen speed. Options are Gen1/Gen 3/Auto
2: AMD PBS\PCIe x16 Switch. Options are Gen1/Gen2/Auto.
3: AMD PBS\Promontory PCIe Switch. Options are Gen1/Gen2/Auto.

Which ones did you change?

AMD PBS PCIe x16 Switch to Gen 2 .. and it forces me to PCIe 2.0. I'll check out the CBS setting and see if that will just force everything to Gen 3.

PBS Promontory PCIe switch, I switched back to Auto and no reboots

...looks like I don't have this option in my BIOS

I just put the 3700X back into motherboard and you are correct. That option disappears. I also tried setting the PCIe Switch and Promontory to Gen2 and it doesn't work for me, sadly. I can only get 5700 XT to run with the 2700X.

I give up hope on this. I'm pretty sure ASRock has released a faulty BIOS and will just have to wait for it.

Hopefully they get this resolved sooner rather than later.. My x470 and the B350 Fatality that is in my daughter's rig have been rock solid (she got my 2700x and was running a 2200g) so that's why I gave ASRock my business with purchasing their RX 5700xt and am confident that they'll address these "growing Pains" soon..

hopefully ...
