Issue:
My individual NVME drives will test around the rated speeds for sequential Read & write. However when transferring a large file between them, in either direction, the transfer will quickly level of at 1.9 to 2 GB/S. I do not understand why I could use them individually at full speeds but they are being throttled when writing between them. This would seem to indicate that it is being limited to PCIE 4.0 x1 speeds to NVME 1 but I do not understand why that would be or how to fix it. Thoughts on how to get this system working at full speed? Environment: Primary NVME - Samsung 980pro 4.0 1TB 7000 read / 5200 write Secondary NVME - HP EX950 3.0 2TB 3000+ read / 2500+ write Windows 11. Fully updated. Latest drivers. NVME controllers using Windows driver. Latest firmware for SSDs. Graphics card in PCIE 1. SATA controller in PCIE 4 |

nvme drives doesnt have all that speed available, there are some limits
first, drives have ram cache, which would max out bandwith limits.. its what you also see in some drive speed benchmarks...ram cache is relatively small, once its filled up, drive will switch to a lower tier caching, which is SLC cache, drive itself works as mlc (2+bits) which is slow, but if it uses only 1 bit per cell (slc) then speed gets boosted up, slc cache has also limits, but its much bigger than ram and provides like 2x faster speed than mlc, once that fills up (lets say 30GB), drive will slowdown to its native mlc speeds. Once finished working with drive, ram/slc cache will empty itself overtime (moved to mlc area) |

Here you can see 980 pro speed drop around 30GB mark, sustaining 2GB/s |
