CPU AMD Ryzen 5700G
BIOS 4.30 OS Ubuntu 22.04 I flashed to latest BIOS 4.30. I have 8 SATA drives mounted on this board with 1 NVME flash drive as well. I verified that all 8 of the SATA DRIVES work. Ubuntu is reporting errors on ATA2 with messages such as these: [ 138.844784] ata2.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x47b00 SErr 0xd0000 action 0x6 frozen [ 138.844813] ata2: SError: { PHYRdyChg CommWake 10B8B } [ 138.844829] ata2.00: failed command: WRITE FPDMA QUEUED [ 138.844843] ata2.00: cmd 61/08:40:a8:08:00/00:00:00:00:00/40 tag 8 ncq dma 4096 out res 40/00:ff:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/00 Emask 0x4 (timeout) [ 138.844881] ata2.00: status: { DRDY } When I first saw these errors, I noticed that the drive would have read errors. I tried changing sata cables. All the other SATA drives functioned fine except for the one mounted on ata2. So I switched the drive on ata2 with another drive that was working fine. It worked fine at that location. However, the drive now occupying ata2 becomes problematic. Sometimes it mounts, sometimes it doesn't. Has anyone experienced ATA errors like this on Asrock boards? This was a newly purchased board. Should I return it? |

BIOS for this board has External SATA port configuration for some reason? And they are all on AUTO by default. Don't know why as all the SATA ports are onboard. I thought nothing of it because all my drives were recognized by the board.
So I experimented by disabling associated external sata port in BIOS storage configuration. Once I started the OS, I no longer saw any ATA errors in Ubuntu. So I went back into BIOS and disabled all the External SATA port settings. BIOS manual section 4.4.3 on Storage configuration lacks any information on what the external sata settings are for. But disabled seems to be the better option as default than auto. https://imgur.com/a/Oi4Rvnn |
