Hey its ok don't worry, they will have that eventually one day! Till than I'll just order like I usually do, no biggie. I also learned a lot from you and thanks again for mentioning the Plus version I would probably miss it and it is worth the buck!
Take care and stay safe.

Yes! The reason why I even started this discussion is because of that. I simply can't find any kind of support for the nvme drives on their storage section.. Just really strange if you ask me.

I am pretty sure it should work it says it works with m.2 and 970 is m.2 drive there is no reason for it not to work, I am still not 100% positive about it since their list showing no result of any type of the newer drives.
I never bought anything from Amazon , just don't want to pay extra for them taxes for it to get to where I live.I'll just buy it from the regular page from where I live inside my Country domain. I think the policy would be 15 days to return the item if it doesn't work with full refunds.

ive just looked at the fatailty support page

and strangely enough

ITS LISTS ABSOLUTELY NO NVME DRIVES ON THE QVL...............

which is strange as the taichi (basically the same board in a different colour) has over 50 nvme drives tested on the QVL............

my advice ?
it should work fine with the 970 (as all 960's are tested on the taichi)

BUT ......BUY IT FROM AMAZON with there no quibble returns policy just in case

chuck it in the top slot (as your looking at board inside normal tower case fitted position

the 'ultra' socket is the one directly connected to cpu with gen3 4 lanes

the lower socket can only support these nvme drives at gen2 with 2 lanes
(so about 25% speedn of top socket)

This is all I got from the Asrock support page about this motherboard. Might be helpful since I don't understand any of it :S

- 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s) (with Matisse, Picasso, Summit Ridge, Raven Ridge and Pinnacle Ridge) or Gen3 x2 (16 Gb/s) (with A-Series APU and Athlon 2xxGE series APU)*
- 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen2 x2 (10 Gb/s)*

Thanks datonyb !
With all the info I got here I am still not sure will my board just accept the 970 evo plus/normal. Hope it does because I will probably go with one of them, might also add that the Bios version is latest possible for my cpu (Summit Ridge) which is P5.50.

from what i see

samsung had to 'up' the performance of the normal evo when WD launched the nvme black edition

hence the evo plus

its similar to the older 970 pro now
with 'i think' much better sustained writes etc

one thing to also consider
with all nvme drives

the QUOTED speeds are usually for the larger drives
the smaller drives in range can be far far slower
due to less actual chips inside

eg 128 gb may have one chip and the 1gb may have 4 chips

the reads and writes are faster with more chips obviosly
