Do you have access to another PSU to test with?
6yr old Chieftec does nothing to assuage my gut feelings of it, even when it was new. |

Hey man
Sorry I'm in a different time zone. Psu is a Chieftec 500 and the machine dates from 2010. Cpu was unmoved when I cleaned the cooler (thermal paste was soft) and I have swapped everything into the newer motherboard. Tonight I'll reseat all mb connectors. I've been religiously resetting cmos before every action - this board even has a reset switch on the back, but also popping the battery and moving the jumpers (depressing on switch whilst unplugged etc) . I've read though that cmos is hard to clear though. |

By chance, did you pull the CPU when you pulled its cooler to clean it?
Too, check that both the 24-pin and 8-pin power cables are firmly seated. What PSU is it using, make, model, and est. age. |

Thanks for your reply Wardog,
The other cards are 2 M-audio Pci audio cards and a mini WiFi card. The system worked successfully for several weeks. How would I update the bios if I cannot get even to post? Cheers again |

What other cards do you have installed in the remaining PCI / PCI-e slots?
870 Extreme3 R2.0 FAQ: then click on: What is Dr. Debug and how do I troubleshoot with these codes? (2013/2/1) Here you'll find a handy reference of Debug codes for your board/BIOS I don't like to suggest BETA BIOSes but due to the age of the last RELEASE BIOS, 1.80 12/8/2011, I might suggest you try the latest BETA, L1.80b 10/11/2013. Nealy two years fresher. Keep me posted. |

Yes sorry
Cpu is a Phenom 2 Graphics card is a passive 1gb Xfx powered by the slot. I've tried it in both pcie slots and tried another same spec passive card. I've seen the Dr debug codes but they are remarkably vague between 95 and 99. Does the d6 error just indicate the absence of a graphics card or that there is a problem with the slot? Cheers |

You don't say what cpu and or video card you have.
Both codes point to PCI-e graphics errors. Is the PSU yet/still up to powering the video card? You also might try a different card to troubleshoot with. |

Hi
(I have cross posted from the Tom's hardware site - apologies if you have read this already) I bought a second hand machine to use as a Digital Audio Workstation - using the 870 extreme 3 as it has 2 PCI slots. It worked well until I took the cpu cooler off to clean the dirt off. When I refitted it refused to post and threw up error 99. I removed all cards and get error d6. With graphics card it shows error 99. Sent of to the states for replacement motherboard and it has exact same readings. Have endlessly cleared cmos. No joy. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Am at my wits end and now 2 weeks late recording new album! Cheers Simon |
