Asrock pro 3.1 x99 - can't POST memory error

It's running well and is an absolute beast. 

Got it running stable at 4.3 ghz on all 10cores with 96GB of ram running at 2800mhz rendering 3d animations using 100% cpu all night long. 

Couldn't be happier!  

I have been using and building computers since the age of 6 (I was born in 82) and I have never had any issues where a motherboard flat out would not boot with a "supported" cpu before. There has always been things like memory speed needing a bios update to work properly or similar, but not like this where you are totally locked out. 

That said everything I have touch have been highend consumer grade systems, and very very little traditional server Xeon systems. This also means at this is my first LGA2011 adventure, and boy did it come with some surprises. 

But thanks to all of you guys, it all very quickly made sense and had several solutions.  <3

The problem with the incompatibility of using Broadwell-E processors on an X99 board, when the board has a Haswell-E processor ONLY compatible UEFI/BIOS, is caused by one thing only.

Intel.

It was the same with X79 boards, and using Ivy Bridge-E processors when the boards had a Sandy Bridge-E only compatible UEFI/BIOS. If you didn't have a Sandy Bridge-E processor to use to update to the Ivy Bridge-E compatible UEFI/BIOS, you were stuck with getting the UEFI updated by someone else.

There are other examples of this, such as mainstream Ivy Bridge processors being used in Intel 6 series chipset boards, designed for mainstream Sandy Bridge processors. That one is a bigger mess, and still haunts owners of those boards to this day.

The CPU microcode, which is part of the UEFI/BIOS file, must be updated to work with the new processor generation. When is the new CPU microcode available? Only when Intel makes it available. That occurs just prior to the release of the new processors.

Broadwell-E processors were available for the first time, one year and 9 months after Haswell-E processors were available. How can a mother board manufacture know where any stock of X99 boards with Haswell-E compatibility only, that they sold to retailers are still in their possession? If they did know, would they have them send them back to have the UEFI chips updated? No one does that.

To be fair, the CPU microcode thing is a true technical limitation. Or there is apparently no way to make it flexible for possible future hardware. But Intel makes no effort in warning owners of these products about this reality. Once again, mother board manufactures are stuck dealing with it.

Hmm, I wonder why Intel got out of the mother board business... Wink

UPDATE! 

This morning I went to the local computer store, and their tech department very kindly helped me update the bios to ver. 3.3  and then proceeded to install my own 6950x cpu and show me it all working and running in the bIOS! 

I want to thank you all very much for your help and information! finally seems like it's all working as intended!

you Sir are most helpful !!  I have emailed ramcity too along with asrock and where I bought the motherboard initially. Tomorrow I will cry to the local store too, hopefully one of these things will help me out sooner rather than later.

Check with RamCity if they have the wherewithal to flash a BIOS for you.

Maybe easier(and faster!) to simply send yours to them and pay a small fee.

I am curious though why I get the error 53?  isn't that a memory error?  or does it cover the CPU as well? 

Also I can't seem to find a list of cpu's that the 1.2 bios supports.  :/  so I have no idea which old cpu to get hold if I had to go to that extend.

So long as they have a compatible CPU with your current BIOS version yes, it should be a simple matter of installing the compatible CPU, downloading the BIOS update and using instant flash to flash it.

Always use instant flash, it is the safest and most reliable method and also has the best crash recovery.
