The 32gb selling on Newegg for $260 ish per stick and jet using a discount on the 16gb sticks at around $105 per stick. I trying to decide if to do 4x16gb for $420 or 2x32gb for $520.

Yeah, that's definitely far off any budget. Memory is still expensive today. I've managed to get a discount for 8 sticks from a small local reseller: 252$ per stick (KVR21R15D4/32). In a few days prices jumped and today I see them selling for $282 per stick on average.

Actually thanks much I'll do some more research with the information you provided with the working list of 32gb sticks.

x4 bank
NOT x8 Ha! 128GB ECC? Budget? Although you somehow managed to, those two do not belong in the same sentence ![]() |

The full list isn't that slim actually ![]()
Similarly, 16GB sticks with 2Rx4 organization should not be problematic too, just check the datasheets. @mjrstar, the kit you've mentioned CT4K32G4LFQ4213 is not an RDIMM memory (a.k.a registered), but LRDIMM (a.k.a load reduced). It's different by technical specification and I'd stay away from them. The only motherboards I know that support LRDIMM are some server boards from Supermicro and Asus X99-E WS (the QVL). Asrock Rack motherboards also support LRDIMM, but they aren't x99, but c612 chipset based

I would understand that would be hard for them to have 8 on hand to test with for different memory modules. What would of been great if the specifics of the ECC being supported. Example what base, Rank(4/8) type(LRDIMM,UDIMM,etc) can be supported. And Currently I have A Xeon E5-2690 v4 running regular ddr4. But shopping around for a budget 128gb setup either 8x16gb fixed or 4x32gb with possibility of growth later on.

Also, I can confirm that ASRock motherboard nor BIOS is limited memory quantity wise.
If the CPU of your choosing can address 256GB of memory an ASRock board will to. The only reason ASRock didn't test a full compliment of eight 32GB sticks of the Crucial memory I listed is because they only have four on hand with which to test. |

On the X99 Taichi, it's Crucial's 32GB CT32G4RFD424A
I wouldn't trust PCPartPickers compatibility list on these sticks. Crucials I might, yet I myself have proven them wrong twice already concerning 32GB sticks. The Crucial 32GB stick I listed above is good, and confirmed my ASRock Tech Support with 4 sticks(128GB) on the X99 Taichi. |

There is a 16gb ecc I'm looking that crucial compatibility list says should work(CT16G4WFD8213) but then there's this Crucial Technology 4 x 32GB DDR4 2133 (PC4 2133) SDRAM CT4K32G4LFQ4213 configuration but no compatibility list besides pcpartspicker saying it will work and hopefully later can be upgraded to 256 like dude here with the Kingston. |
