Strange, i Used the front header of my case just fine trough the usb 3.1 header.

Edit 2: Problem solved. Just as I suspected, it was necessary to use a USB port directly on the motherboard. I was initially using a "front panel" USB port on my case. The Instant Flash instructions do not mention anything regarding which USB port should be used, but if your UEFI has to reboot before it can apply the update, then it may need the USB drive connected directly to a port on the motherboard.
