If I remember correcly, my 960 EVO SSD didn't really show up in BIOS before I installed Windows on it. You haven't specified if your system is already up and running and you're trying to add a new drive or if you've just built your system and are hoping to install an OS next. If the latter applies, have you read these instructions?

http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1236&title=how-to-install-windows-on-a-pcie-ssd

Namely this part: "Do NOT be worried if your PCIe SSD is not listed in the Storage Configuration screen or Boot order list. That does not matter at all."

Wouldn't the PC just not post if you plugged it incorrectly?

He's talking about the 8-pin power connector for the CPU. There are a number of ways of getting it wrong, such as only plugging in four pins, or forgetting to plug it in at all, or trying to use a cable intended for powering PCIe graphics cards.

Thanks, BetterJake.  I recommend you open an ASRock Support ticket a request an RMA.  Sorry, John.

I just updated my 960s' Firmware .  It takes about 20 seconds and does a SHUTDOWN.  Since I am not running a RAID right now, I just selected and updated each one.  If I have been running a RAID I would have had to break down the RAID so Samsung Magician could see them. Old was Firmware 7B7QCXE7, new is 3B7QCXE7.  Enjoy, John.

BetterJake, please try what abasees did and plug your 960 in the M2_2 socket and see if it works. This should tell us if your 960 is good.  Did you check your 8-pin CPU power plug?

abasee, I think you need to try BIOS/UEFI BETA 4.63.  It may well work for you.  Please post your specifications and make sure you have the 8-pin CPU (not PCPIe) plugged properly.
Enjoy, John.

EDIT:  I just discovered, using Samsung Magician, that there is a new microcode release.  I will update mine and let you hear how it goes.  Magician will also tell you what the Interface is.

Yes I am sure it is plugged into the M2_1 socket.

Powersupply:

SeaSonic M12II 520 Bronze EVO Edition 520W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.91 SLI 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

The 960 does get warm but cannot be detected in UEFI/BIOS

I'm running P4.60 on my HTPC build and currently my Samsgun 960 EVO nvme M.2 is connected via M2_2 socket (which I didn't think would work consider its sata...), but is running apparently as PCIe 3.0 x 1

Unfortunately I've had no luck getting it to work in M2_1 socket. It appears in BIOS but it plays up/acts funny, it wont always show up, and in such situations, unplugging and replugging power (after a shutdown) shows its after, but does not make it a bootable device.

Happy to help out if it means we get a patch sooner rather than later.
