All Intel Haswell processors, like sltd's i3-4130T, use very little power at idle when their power saving options are enabled.
With EIST and all the C States enabled, my four core/eight thread Haswell Xeon E3-1276v3 uses about 1.25W of power at idle. That is an 84 W TDP processor. The i3-4130T is a 35 W TDP processor, which will use even less power at idle, which makes it perfect for a NAS server. |

Never measured the real consumption. But i suppose isn't that much. As you can see in the picture the CPU is most of the time idle.

Last year i built a NAS Server based on the AsRock E3C226D2I. This server has been running for almost a year, 24/7 without any issue. It is used only for backups. Compared with the old QNAP we had it' s lightning speed.
![]() Had to update bios to get it work, but then all went on rails. I love these small boards. You can buid a powerful, low power system in a small factor. Used an Intel i3 4130T. ![]() A 4 bay hot plug case. All assembled. Parts list:
It runs nas4free 9.1.0.1 from a 8GB USB stick. Edited by sltd - 01 May 2015 at 1:29am |
