Solved! In spite of passing the motherboard tests and booting into the BIOS with no issues the problem was a faulty CPU. Got the CPU replaced and now it boots like a boss. Thanks for all the suggestions folks. So far I've found the motherboard to be solid. I appreciate the easy OC options!

It's been in the shop since Monday and they still haven't managed to get it to boot. I think they're swapping out the CPU to see if that's the issue this afternoon. Since that's the only part that hasn't been replaced at least twice in this build I'm starting to think that must be where the problem is, even though the CPU seems fine as far as motherboard tests when booting into the bios. It's all still very confusing and extremely frustrating. If my partner doesn't get to play Overwatch again soon she's is going to kill me! :(

I gave up and sent my PC to a repair shop. I've been building PCs for 30 years and never had to do that before. I must be getting old :(

In the lower right of the MB, directly next to/below the SATA ports are its two BIOS chips. There are two white stickers over the chips with printing. What exactly is printed upon the stickers?

ASRock Z170 Extreme4 Motherboard (new) 2 x 8GB Ballistix DDR4 2666 RAM (new) i5 6600K CPU (new) MSI GT970 GPU (18 months old) Integrator Mod XT 650w PSU (new, plugged directly into wall socket) Zalman Z9 case (new) 128GB Crucial SSD (18 months old)

Please list out all the HW that makes up your "basic' running computer.
Make and Model of all please. Also, along with Make and Model, the age of your PSU. And if you have the computers PSU plugged directly into thw wall outlet, or if it''s connected to a power strip or battery back up(APC, CyberPower, TrippLite etc). |

I'm more confused now than ever. I just put a movie DVD in the disk drive and tried to boot from it. It launched Windows Repair tool and then hung up at the usual place. I expected the disk to be reported as non bootable.
Can anyone help?! I feel sure that this is a Bois setting that I just haven't set correctly.

I don't have any USB2 ports at the back, it's plugged into the USB2 header on the front of the case. The SSD is in port 3_2 and is recognised in bios. Since I can't even boot to USB I'm guessing this is not the problem? I have tried selecting UEFI USB from the boot menu. I created the drive using Rufus (having previously used the Windows tool to create it). Same deal, I get the ASRock logo, a couple of circles spin in and everything stops.

Do you have the Windows 10 usb plugged into the usb2 port on the rear I/O panel? Are you selecting UEFI usb from the boot menu?
Do you have the SSD plugged into port 0 of the Intel ports,...is it recognized in the BIOS? |
