A 9950x that won't do 6000mhz... first I've heard of this, but I haven't read much about how other people are doing with their 9950x.

I'm currently on Asrock x870 rs pro and 9700x.. running 6200mhz 1:1 with 2x32gb sticks no problem.

But I saw someone with a Gene board and 9700x running my same memory kit at 8000... which I think a Taichi OCF could also do.. just need an AM5 version of this board.

I'm happy with the RS Pro and all, but if a 2dimm board appears in my budget range before my Amazon return window, I'll be buying that isntead.. better to future-proof with motherboards when possible.

You are right about the Tachyon.
There is no X670E Tachyon.

RAM speed is being limited by the memory controller that's on the CPU.
AMD Zen 5 CPUs only support, officially, 2x DDR5-5600, or 4x DDR5-3600.
Everything beyond that is silicone lottery.

Yes, "officially".. but in reality, probably 80% or better of zen 4 and 5 series will do 6000-6400mhz 1:1 -so memclk/uclk 3000-3200.

But then running 2:1 has been showing benefit at 7800+ and I've yet to hear of a single person with a good 2 dimm motherboard who was not able to run a zen 4 or 5 stable at 8000+.

Anyways, either Zen6 or Zen5+ is said to be coming in 2025... the main change should be with the memory controller.. a strong focus on reducing memory latency.

So, not really sure what point you were trying to make.. but personally I want a Taichi OCF so I can be future-proof for at least one more upcoming CPU.. potentially running 9000+mhz ram by the end of it's life.

The point that I was trying to make is that, fast RAM kits, that are running above the spec of the CPU, aren't guaranteed to work!
Or, if they do work, they might be running with errors, which can be seen when testing the system with a tool such as MemTest86.
