On Asrock web (http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Extreme7+/?cat=Download&os=BIOS) is a new BIOS 7.10.
1. Update Intel Microcode 2. Update TPM module Has anyone tried this new bios? |

A better question is is there something holding your computer back that you feel that this new BIOS will address? Yea, Sorry. I'm not a big proponent of flashing BIOSes unless the newer one corrects an issue I'm having. I spend an inordinate amount of time tweaking inside a BIOS to have to redo it afterwards. And that's assuming that all the lines/settings I've tweaked are there still after flashing a new one to it. Give it a whirl. |

I have this board, have not tried that version yet. Interesting change in the numbering scheme for UEFI versions. I suspect this may be in anticipation of Kaby Lake processors, since the CPU microcode was changed. Otherwise, it might be a fix or improvement for Skylake processors. TPM module update may be adding options for the TPM module, or a new version. ASRock has two now: http://www.asrock.com/mb/spec/card.asp?Model=TPM-S%20Module Plus who knows what other surprises we will find in the new version. Not unusual to find one or two. I'll try it tomorrow. |

Hey,
i have this MB also and i flashed it yesterday to v7.1. I've got the following problems with the new update: - with an installed tpm-module, i cant enter the uefi screen by pressing "del" or "f2". After unplugging the tpm, i was able to enter the uefi - most of my harddiscs (connectet to the black sata 3 ports) are not listed in the "storage" section, but they appear in the "boot-priority list

The TPM module configuration screen was modified, so a reset of the TPM module seem to be necessary. What TPM module are you using? The "black SATA ports" could be Intel or ASMedia, two different SATA controllers. The four at the "top" of the board are the ASMedia. So not sure which ones you are referring to. What kind of drives are they (HDD, SSD), and do you have the Drive Type setting configured for each drive? Drive Type is valid only for the Intel SATA ports. Are you using any M.2 drives? The Storage Configuration screen seems to be retaining my non-default settings after updating to 7.10. That includes the Intel SATA mode set to RAID, and the ASMedia controllers Disabled. All I can say is... Great!! Actually, that is not new, but I'm glad it is still there. Not to mention the PCIe Remapping options being retained. Some of us know why that is a good thing. Also, a nice surprise about the M.2 slot entries in the Storage Configuration screen. Who else knows what it is? |

Flashed it yesterday,...did not break my RAID,...yeah! :)
Why no updated IRST firmware? :( Why can't I reuse a profile saved from another/previous UEFI firmware update :( I wish they would tell us of all the changes in updates!? |

What is it now, a 14.6 or 14.8 version, I forget. Intel's last official release is 14.8 for the IRST driver. Do you know if there is an official, new IRST firmware version?
I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe that is caused by the nature of the UEFI code. The location or alignment of a UEFI option can change between versions. Or for some other reason, matching the profile from one version of a UEFI/BIOS to another version, simply does not work. There might be a clue about this in the size of the .zip download files. They are rarely the same size. Yes, that is related to the compression of the contents of the source file, but the size of the extracted file is always the same. I have all of the UEFI versions of the Z170 Extreme7+ saved, the compressed files range from 7,271KB (1.40) to 8,073KB (1.70). The extracted file is 16,384KB. I wish I could reuse my profiles, and I usually don't have enough profiles. wardog, the OC Formula boards have at least 10 profiles available. You can always use a USB flash drive and F12 the UEFI screens you want to reproduce. Primitive but better than nothing.
Not doing that seems to be a long standing tradition among mother board manufactures. Or the infamous, "Improve system compatibility", or "Improve stability" statements in the description, which could mean anything. |

Nope. From 2.6 onward flashing would reset to defaults, I would re do RAID and UEFI Only and it would be back up and running. However, we all know NOT to do a CMOS clear,...
