X370 Taichi - Sound issue

Hi all, 

First of all, sorry if my english is not perfect, it's not my native language. 

So, i've just build a new rig with a X370 Taichi, here are the specs: 
  • Ryzen 7 - 1700x
  • X370 taichi
  • Gygabyte GTX 1070 Windforce
  • 2x16 DDR4 3200 - Corsair vengeance lpx
  • Evga 600w 80+
  • Noctua NH-u12s
  • Zalman Z9 Neo 
  • Iiyama PL2780
I'm on windows 10 and the problem is i can't get sound through my jack ports, whatever port i try to use (front, back, screen), it's just not detected and the sound continue to play through my screen's speakers. 

I've tried to uninstall all audio drivers, reinstall them, but still no chance. 
Moreover, the realtek one, which i've downloaded from asrock, doesn't seem to show up in the device manager or the sound pannel on windows. 

I've also tried to flash the bios to the newest version, and i've also tried to make it work on a live session of linux, but it still won't work. 

I honestly don't know what to do next ... any ideas ?

Have you installed the Realtek drivers?

I don't think there is a generic audio driver for the onboard sound and you'll need the Realtek driver to make it work.
Good news is that the driver software isn't really offensive and doesn't use much in the way of resources.  I doubt that you'll ever want to use the tacky echo effects on there though.

Scratch all that, I didn't read your post.

Hmm, the onboard sound has jack sensing, and knows when you plug something in.  What are you plugging in?

Is the UEFI configured for HDAudio and not AC97?  I think this may apply to the front connectors that normally feed the case jacks.

I don't recall a setting in the UEFI, but there might be a way of disabling the onboard audio.  Check if it's enabled.

MX89, your two screenshots indicate that the Realtek audio is not being seen at all.  Please make sure the Front Panel is set to HD and not AC97 (as VUMeter said).  Also make sure that your front panel audio is connected to the board header correctly.  Enjoy, John.

Hi, the front panel is connected correctly, enabled and set on HD in the uefi, but  still don't work, along with the jack on the back of the mobo.

I just got my rig up and running - and ran into the same issue. 

However I figured it out, in the BIOS there's advanced settings and you can find where there is SOUND - Change the Sound from AUTO to ENABLED - if there is another device like HDMI audio or another sound card the AUTO turns off the Realtek detection.

Hi,

I have the same exact problem, however in the BIOS settings (P3.40, the latest) I don't have the "auto" option but only "enabled" and "disabled"; it's clearly on "enabled" and "hd", however the audio device still doesn't show up.

Where did you get the P3.40 from? I see only P3.20 on ASRock's website.

Try flipping the UEFI option nonetheless and see what Win will do. No sound in Linux is a good indication the problem is deeper than just drivers.

And to clarify - Win 10 doesn't need the Realtek drivers. My audio is blasting just as fine with the default drivers Win 10 gave me.

In fact I have an X370 killer SLI and not a Taichi, I assumed that the bios were the same but apparently it's not. Link to the 3.40 bios: https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/X370%20Killer%20SLI/index.asp#BIOS

Anyway the problem is the same, and I've tried to disable/enable it and also tried AC97/HD without success; didn't try in Linux, I'll give it a go.

Maybe I should revert to 3.20?

Please check with View -> Show hidden devices in Device Manager. It's a good idea to blur the PC name when posting online. Smile

Changing UEFI versions and clearing CMOS is not a bad idea either. Try unplugging the whole audio header for the front panel for troubleshooting. Let's focus on the back one first.

Hi,

you mean disconnected and deactivated devices? They're already showed but there's no trace of the internal HD audio.

The front panel is disconnected.
I've checked with linux: the device is still missing.

Before I go on and flash the bios: can someone confirm if 3.20 has the three options enabled/disabled/auto for the audio? Or which bios is the latest with the three options?
