Hi!

I just built a computer with the following specs:
I9 9900k
Z390 Taichi
Samsung Evo 970
CMK64GX4M4B3200C16 Corsair 64GB (4x16GB) Vengeance LPX, DDR4 3200MHz
Corsair HX750i 750W

Bios boots fine, but whatever I do I can't install windows since it goes into BSOD instantly from the media installation drive with various hardware errors. I have tried changing the amount of RAM, remove GPU, changed to normal SATA hdd, clear cmos, tried different BIOS versions. Does anyonw have any suggestions? Thank you!

Just got done doing my Z390 Taichi Ultimate build, might be able to help here.

What does your BSOD error say exactly? That would be helpful in troubleshooting.

Is your PC set up for RAID or AHCI? Mine build was RAID 0 using 2 Samsung 950 Pro drives, and I was having trouble with the Intel RST driver. It was causing a BSOD saying Unrecognized Boot Device.

I was trying to restore my old system backup using Acronis Universal Restore. Everything worked until the OS tried to boot. It would not properly load the RAID driver upon OS loading, and threw up the BSOD.

What I ended up doing was a clean Windows 10 install from a bootable USB Thumb Drive. I initialized the RAID first in BIOS and then the clean install worked just fine. I didn't even have to provide the RAID driver, as Windows 10 install detected it straight away.

Sometimes you need to do the Win 10 thumbdrive install using the USB 2.0 ports, I remember having to do that on my old Asrock Extreme7+, although I didn't have to do that on this board, the USB 3.0 port worked fine.

Make sure you are not overclocking anything to start with. Also, I updated the BIOS to 1.90. My board came with 1.60. I did this before the Win 10 installation hoping that was my problem, but I still had to do the clean install.

Anyway, a lot of stuff, maybe it helps, if not, posting the BSOD error will help find the answer.

Thank you for your reply! There's been a lot of different error but the most common ones I have seen are:
System Thread Exception Not Handled and DPC Watchdog Violation and Video Scheduler Internal Error.

I have it set for AHCI, and I have tried to install a fresh Windows from USB2, but even on the USB2 it BSOD:s when trying to boot the installation from the USB straight from BIOS. I have the latest BIOS version installed, 1.90.

Is the usb stick correctly formatted? If I remember it needs to be fat 32. Another possibility is the media is corrupted.

DPC Watchdog Violation in Windows 10 is a known issue and is related to the problems loading AHCI Drivers. Lots of threads on that issue in Google.

What type of Hard Drive are you using in your build? Is it M.2 or standard SSD?

Can you try a different Hard Drive and repeat the install?

I assume you have cleared CMOS, but try that as well if you haven't done so.

Disconnect everything other than your Hard Drive, Memory, and the USB Install Media while trying to boot and see what you get.

I am using Samsung Evo 970, which is a M.2 NVME drive, and have been using AHCI in BIOS for that. Is there some other way it should be done?

I cleared CMOS, and have also tried with standard SATA drives, as well as disconnecting everything.

Doesn't sound good.

Did you pull the CMOS Battery out and let the system sit like that for a few minutes to drain the CMOS? Grasping at straws here.

What do you have the CSM set to?

Yeah I removed the battery for about half an hour, tried different BIOS versions and nothing helped. CSM is disabled. I actually went ahead and took the computer to the store where I bought all the parts, where they would try with different hardware so we'll see. I am guessing it's a hardware error with some of the other parts and not something with the motherboard but your insights has been helpful. I will write here when I know what it was, in case someone else runs into similar problems!

CSM is on in my system. Try booting it with CSM Enabled.
