Ah ok 16x2, I'll take my chance with my 8x4 :D But this board is a T-Topology board so it likes 8x4 with no issues, we shall see. I don't really need the extra cores but I want them just incase I need them lol. 4850mhz is a nice boost, using water to keep it cool, me I have the Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B so it will work on a 105w cpu as well ^_^ |

@t1125p Note I had a stability issue when I pushed the system hard with Cyberpunk for whatever reason. I believe it to be SOC voltage related based on previous experience and once I'd created a 0.05 offset against VDDCR_SOC everything seems stable once again

You mean you overclocked your CPU when you ran Cyberpunk? If so how is it when it runs stock? Oh and the temps you get while idle and gaming? I keep reading that Zen 3 CPUs get much hotter than the previous generation, up to 90c under load which going by a post by Robert Hallock to a reponse to a reddit user, he says 90-95c under load is fine, but for me it's not LOL. |

My 5950x was much cooler than 3900x. Both at stock. I released the kraken aka PBO on 5950x, and it still is 10C cooler than 3900x without PBO.
I'm starting to suspect, that majority of 5000 series users get careless with power limit in BIOS. |

Your 5950x is on a x470 Taichi? I also have a auto notify email for the 5950x as well as a 5900x wherever they have it B&H, Bestbuy etc. lol. That's great it's running cooler than the previous generation, I guess the BIOS is much better for the 5000 series CPUs it seems. I was looking into the 5800x they are actually up to buy at Bestbuy and B&H but I keep reading they run very hot so I'll go for the higher end CPUs ?? |

I don't think BIOS is better, I believe it's fabrication process refinement in play. Also, a lot of people run away with insane PBO settings. I have seen so many sites recommend 9999 as a limit to all power settings in PBO section. So if you set limitless "limitations" and CPU has 95C thermal limit, it is logical to assume that CPU will be boosting till it bounces back from 95C limit. These type of temps are kinda bad for surrounding motherboard components whatever everyone says.
So if you want your 5000 series to behave, chill with PBO settings ;) |

@t1125p sorry for slow reply (work). no I didn't mean overclocking but I used to run a 3600xt and some g.skill ram before these new ones so commented here prematurely. did some more testing last night and what's becoming apparently is that if I strip it down to 'auto' basics, the bit causing the instability was excessive LLC (lvl2) settings. I'm trialing a bit more tonight but if I don't post again that was probably it. As another poster said here, I don't think it's worth pushing too much into these they already clock so hard with the new algorithms. I think instead I'll see how far my memory can go with a matched Infinity Fabric ratio. To comment on temps, I have a 360mm medium thickness single loop radiator with a 3080 in the same loop. Worst temps I ever saw even with the excessive LLC was 84centigrade. Now I've gone back down to auto basics I'm looking at 74 last night with all cores reaching 4850mhz regularly

I have PBO off in my BIOS, and just let the CPU boost on it's own. It can still run hot but those are just spikes not sustained temps. It can hit 80c sometimes gaming, again just a spike it's usually much lower sustainted.

That's ok. I see hmm, I'm just going to run my ram aS I do now. My XMP settings are 3200 CL14 in a 8x4 32GB. Not going to overclock it, when I buy my 5900x I'll just drop it in and fix my settings as how I had them with my 3700x. I have a Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B with 2 Noctua 120mm fans on them. The 3700x can reach up to 80-81c but those are just spikes, usually it's much lower sustained temps while gaming in the 60s-70s. Now still looking for a 5900x the 5800x is easy to find though. I will pay up to $75 over MSRP :D Thats' the highest I'll go. |
