Ok I waited long enough, cannot find a 5900x to anywhere near MSRP I would pay up to $50 over retail but no luck. So I bought the next best thing, the 5800x ??. The upgrade went smoothly. Flashed to bios 4.70, even have resizable bar to. Temps seem good or a bit better than my older 3700x, idle now in the lower 30s up to max in games so far 74-75c. This time I put one pea size dot in the middle and smaller half pea size dots on all 4 corners. XMP 3200 CL14 no issues with all 4 slots of 32GB RAM.

cool, yeah I thought that was the better option anyway. There are scenarios where the 5800x does better e.g. for high clocks, single threaded because there is less heat being applied per core (less voltage) in the same surface area. I also get resizable BAR enabled ok, same speed ram too but have overclocked that up a bit and kept 1:1 ratio with IF clock. Enjoy the increased IPC, frequency and get water cooling eventually!

Yup, also being only 1 CCD helps to. Just one 8 core 16 thread die. A bit easier to cool I think as well. I'm not going enable the resize bar yet, don't see it as any benefit really maybe a few % in some games but all of those games listed I don't play lol. I'm sure in the future there will be more added. I have PBO off and nothing O/C. Your RAM is O/C to what speeds? I'm wondering now if I can boost it up to 3600 @ CL14. I used to have water cooling on my older 3770k but now I went with air, easier to maintain :)

I've not heard of putting paste on the edges. just a line in middle or pea in middle. if you're not overclocking manually and pbo disabled then you should be getting low temps. defo start putting a negative offset voltage on the core, defaults seem way too high. Memory 3466 so far at cl14; I will do 3600 next and I've read people getting that with the xmp timing, wow.

I have the Noctua NT-H2 paste and I went by this video. First time I did it this way, I usually just do a pea size dot but so far this seems pretty good to. I tried to link the video of the paste appliaction but for some reason othe link says not found. Just look for: Noctua NT-H2: How to apply on medium-sized CPUs Skip to 0:58. My vcore using HWiNFO has a max when stressed, gaming, benchmark, etc was 1.494. Going by what AMD has stated up to 1.500 is fine and normal. :) 3466 CL14 is pretty good. I have Flare X samsung bdie so it might be able to go higher. I was looking at some benchmarks, 3200 cl14 vs 3600 cl16 and there is not to much of a difference. Maybe in some games 3%.

seriously, you cannot cause harm from undervolting. even try start with -0.025 or -0.05 if nervous but mine is drawing about 1.38 peak from memory, no crashes yet. yeah with cl14 timings and a 1:1 IC match, it's a strong start. once all other stuff stable you can play with a little more OC. add that to re-BAR...it all adds up

two quick thoughts from myself
1) thermal paste a 3800/5800 etc has one hot spot the top right 1/4 of heatsink this is where the actual cores sit (eg just above the letter N of ryzen printed on the heatsink ) a bead in the middle is actually just covering the I/O chip hence noctua advice for the 4 corners to make sure you cover the actual cpu cores

2) ram speeds with b die ..3600 easy at cl16 even with the older 3xxx series
and then you have the advantages across the board games and productivity of the higher 1800mhz infinity bus (to be fair with a 5xxx chip you should be aiming/trying for 3800mhz ram and 1800 infinity clock, if you can tweak it that high, it does depend on your luck with the b dies and the memory controller of the 5xxx cpu

Does anybody can help to set proper voltage, frequency and PBO for 5800X on X470 Taichi Ultimate?
I installed it today and board sets very high voltages which causes high temperatures.

Hi I'm running PBO with x470 taichi which will be the same as ultimate I think. I'm running a fixed vcore of 1.325 I think. Auto does look high but those are only spikes it doesn't run those voltages constantly. PBO allows it to spike to keep threads high here and there and give you overall best-as-possible performance for the cooling conditions available

X470 taichi and taichi ultimate have same VRM.
Can You make some screen how you set voltages, PBO and LLC?
Maybe I mounted wrong my air cooler or it`s insufficient?

When I try to make test with prime95 it get 90 celsius but in OCCT runs cooler and get spikes to 80 celsius.
