    Posted: 17 Sep 2017 at 10:15pm

I had been running an msi x370 gaming pro carbon, and had also ran a b350 gaming pro carbon using gskill ripjawsV 3200 memory (f4-3200c16D-16GVK) timings of 16-16-16-36 and it worked fine in both of those msi boards with the agesa 1.0.0.6a updated bios'.

I wanted to move up to this high end asrock board and recently did, but my memory wont post at rated speed using the xmp profile 2, it goes into the boot loop and resets to 2133mhz after several reboots.. and its a pain to get into the bios, feels like a shot in the dark to get back in the bios.

I'm running the latest bios version 3.1

Will this memory work at its rated speed?  I look at the memory qvl list and its not listed or Asrock hasnt updated the list with the agesa 1.0.0.6a update.

If this memory will not work at all at its rated speed, what memory will work? I would like 16gb 3200mhz or faster.

 Thanks.

brucer, I cannot answer your question but suggest running non-qualified memory is asking for disappointment whether it works in an MSI board or not.  ripjaws is an Intel memory and I would strongly suggest you consider G.Skill FlareX for AMD.  I suspect you can find 3200 on the Qualified list.  If you want to work on these (BIOS adjustments), then wait for the many memory knowledgeable here such as datonyb - certainly worth a try!  Enjoy, John.

EDIT:  Please post more complete specifications as in my signature.

i had some more memory out of my old I5-6600k system that worked, its 3000mhz and it posted at the 1500mhz so I got the memory issue out of the way for now. xmp profile 2 worked fine..

System is booting up good now..

I tried to overclock the 1700 and get nothing..

I set it to overclock mode, leave the bclock on auto, set the frequency to 3700, set vcore at like 1.35, then i move down to the voltage part and set it to fixed and set it to 1.35 also..

then save and exit.. upon booting into windows cpuid shows its running at 1550mhz..

I've tried many different settings, nothing is working, keeps booting into windows at 1550mhz..

Any ideas, I'm guessing I'm missing a setting somewhere... I disable c6, disable global c-state and disable amd cool&quiet..

If I set it to auto it works as intended, just when i manuall make changes it boots into windows at 1550mhz.

i use the pstates to overclock AND set the voltage

i find it easier and more precise
heres a vid for the taichi
it wont be much different for yours at all
the 1700 should get to 3.9 at 1.3 to 1.35 volts

the p state method is the second half of video (7 mins 30 ish seconds in)

When i go to overclock in the overclock tweaker.. When I set frequency to 3800, then i set the voltage at 1.325, then in the voltage section I set the vcore there also at 1.325 but when i save to bios and reboot the cpu runs at 1550mhz when I check it with cpuz, what would cause this? Why isnt the overlcok taking? I've ran this 1700 at 3.8 and 3.9 ghz in an msi b350 gaming pro carbon, so I know it'll do it..

daytonyb,

I also went in a overclocked using the pstates like brian from techcity did and that overlcok took.. I also bumped my memory up to 1533mhz and that worked also..

What would be the reason a conventional overclock would not work?

i think/recall

adjusting BOTH voltages causes this issue

im a tad busy to try and find the source at the moment

it might have been here or on one of the two overclockers threads i read about this bug

on my oc tweaker page my cpu volts are all set to auto
i just adjust the llc on that page for cpu and soc
and also bump the soc volts up 'FIXED' TO 1.1 VOLTS

Your board's UEFI is a bit different than other ASRock AM4 boards, but what you've described sounds like the result of differences in the apparently three places you set the VCore.

Also you must be sure that the CPU/core speeds are set to the same frequency in the OC Tweaker screen, and in the PState0 profile. Changing the frequency in one screen (PState0) may not do it in the other (OC Tweaker.)

Set CPU frequency in OC Tweaker with PState0 set to Custom.

Set the VCore in OC Tweaker, but not in PState0. I don't know how your board's Voltage Configuration screen that you described fits into this, but just be sure these two are the same.

The CPU power saving options should not affect an OC, I have all of them enabled and my OC works fine.
