Installing any version of Windows in UEFI mode with any mother board requires at least one setting in the UEFI, and choosing the correct entry for the Windows 10 installation media in the boot order.
When you said in your first post you were installing Windows 10 from a USB flash drive, booting in UEFI mode, what did you do to accomplish that? You also said you changed to Legacy mode, and you did not have the shutdown problem. How did you change to Legacy mode? There are several ways to get Windows to install in UEFI mode. Use one of these three configuration methods:
Then Save and Exit the UEFI/BIOS. Go right back into the UEFI, with your Windows USB flash drive installation media in a USB port on the board's IO panel. Go to the Boot screen, and in the Boot order find the entry for your Windows 10 installation USB flash drive that is: "UEFI: <USB flash drive device name>", where USB flash drive device name is simply the name of that device as recognized by the board's UEFI firmware. That entry is the one you want to boot from. If you see another entry for the USB flash drive with the prefix "AHCI" or "RAID", instead of "UEFI", do NOT choose that entry. The only other drive that should be connected to the PC and connected to power is the target OS drive. It should be empty, or have a large empty partition that will be used for the Windows installation. If the target drive or partition has any sub-partitions on it, they should be deleted before the installation begins. I have installed Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 in UEFI mode many times on many ASRock mother boards, including Z77, Z87, Z97, X99, N3150, and Z170 chipset boards. They all work correctly, if you mean they could be shutdown normally. Many other ASRock board users have done that too. Anyone that is using a PCIe type SSD must use a UEFI booting Windows installation. ASRock has had the correct Option ROMs in their board's UEFI/BIOS, and the UEFI configuration options for UEFI booting in their board's firmware for about five years. The only time I have had a problem with a shutdown not working on a UEFI booting Windows installation is when I cloned a Windows installation from one drive to another. I think that is related to the Windows Fast Startup feature. I've never had that problem with a fresh, new Windows installation. Edited by parsec - 05 Apr 2016 at 2:35pm |

Thank you. You think "Fast Boot" in BIOS ? It is disabled from begin. BIOS is set to "default settings". Also, I try modify some options in BIOS, enable/disable LAN in BIOS (also wakeup function in Windows drivers), but nothing solved this problem.
Does anybody have motherboard X99 Extreme6, installed Windows 10 in UEFI, that works correctly? Is necessary to set some special settings in BIOS before installing Windows 10 in UEFI mode ?

[SOLVED]
Hi everyone, I have a new PC with this configuration: CPU: Intel Core i7 5820K MOBO: ASRock X99 Extreme6 RAM: 4x Kingston HyperX FURY Black Series 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 Non-ECC CL15 DIMM Graphic card: 1x MSI R7 370 4GB SSD: 1x Samsung 840 EVO 1TB HDD: 1x HGST Travelstar 7K1000 2.5", 1TB, 7200, SATA III, 32MB Optical drive: 1x DVDRW/RAM Samsung SH-224FB 24x SATA Power supply: be quiet! STRAIGHT POWER 10 700W 80PLUS GOLD Case: Fractal Design Define R5 I've done update of firmware to version 2.10 immediately at first startup, and then install Windows 10 from USB key booting in UEFI mode. I've installed all ASRock MOBO's drivers, installed MSI graphic card driver. And when I shutdown PC, shutting process start, then screen is turning off for a few seconds, and than welcome screen is appearing and I'm back in desktop. Simply, Windows couldn't shutdown in UEFI mode. It seems like a "restart", when I shutdown PC, but without POST process and without any Windows loading process. Also, I have problem when "sleep" command. When PC go to "sleep mode", only monitors are turned off and computer running below. The problems are only in UEFI mode, in Legacy mode everything run correctly. Does anyone have a similar problem? Thanks for any respond. Edited by mbtech - 05 Apr 2016 at 5:39pm |
