Will this board receive PCIE 4.0 with a bios update? It seems the x470 can support it, I found this on tom's hardware:

"But after speaking with several motherboard vendors here at CES 2019, we've learned that many of them have successfully tested PCIe 4.0 on 300- and 400-series AMD motherboards, meaning that the feature could be enabled with a simple BIOS update, at least partially.

Our sources tell us that after unlocking the feature via a BIOS update, the older motherboards supply a PCIe 4.0 x16 connection to the first slot on the motherboard, but the remainder of the slots revert to PCIe 3.0 signaling rates."

Hopefully we get Ryzen 3000 support along with PCIE 4.0

Would be nice, but I still want to see a GPU card that can saturate the current PCIe bandwidth.

Gigabyte Enables PCIe 4.0 on X470 and B450 Motherboards (Updated 05-19-19)

From Tom's Hardware: " The company has enabled the option for PCIe 4.0 in the BIOS of its X470 Aorus Gaming Wi-Fi 7 motherboard. That signals that, under some circumstances, the company will likely support PCIe 4.0 on existing motherboards if you drop in a new Ryzen 3000 processor."

Now I'm hoping ASRock has something for us to unlock PCIe 4.0 on x470.

I would imagine the major factor will be data path compliance. Think of it like network cables, even if your switch and device both support gigabit speeds, you can be restricted by the cable you use. Odds are, most boards will support it if a 3000 series CPU is installed (with supporting BIOS). It should be no different than PCIe 2.0 on Sandy Bridge being upgraded to PCIe 3.0 on Ivy Bridge with a BIOS update and CPU upgrade.

I am sure we will know more soon but for now, my guess is that if one manufacturer claims support will be added via CPU and BIOS then all manufacturers will.

Yes I also hope soon we have news if they will have PCIe 4.0. I'm certain the x470 boards will support the 3000 series CPUs I'm looking to upgrade my 2700x to a 3700x :D

By the way, AMD had earlier confirmed
<https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-ryzen-pcie-4.0-motherboard,38401.html>
that current 300 and 400-series AM4 motherboards can support PCIe 4.0 but has left it to the motherboard vendors' discretion whether or not to implement the feature.
The slot selection for Gen4 support will also depend on the board's layout and PCIe lane lengths.
Any PCIe slots with PCIe 3.0 switches or extra routing will not be able to support Gen4 speeds.
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-ryzen-pcie-4.0-motherboard,38401.html

Most important, so far no gaming graphics card supports the faster standard on the market.
We will verify this function upon receiving those PCIE4.0 devices in our lab.

Hello, yes I read that article as well. This is indeed good news, and future proof for when graphics card do ship with pcie 4.0. Now I see the 3800x is part of Ryzen 7 not Ryzen 9 as previously reported. Now I will upgrade to 3800x, to replace my 2700x. It also has really good single core performance which I like as well. Reason I play a lot of the MMO Guild Wars 2 and that game is single core heavy.

I just saw that the x470 Taichi received a new BIOS update to v3.40
Is there any confirmation that it unlocks PCIe 4.0 on the first slot?
I don't see any information posted if it does or doesn't.

Take a look at the Computex coverage of X570 boards. From what I can tell it seems unlikely we will see PCIe 4.0 support on gen1 and gen2 boards. Bare in mind this is based on personal observation, my contacts at ASRock have not provided any info on the matter as yet. Based on the design of the new boards and the need for active cooling on the chipset I get the feeling PCIe 4.0 is pushing the chipset to the limits and as such generates a lot more heat than can be passively dissipated. In addition to that there is also talk about the actual PCB pathing for the slots needing to be within tolerance.

Ryzen 3000 CPU support is going to happen but PCIe 4.0 I get the feeling will not on older generations. That said, the only devices even able to leverage PCIe 4.0 to any degree are ultra high end NVME storage devices. GPUs can't even saturate x8 PCIe 3.0 yet so in other words, they will need to double their bandwidth requirements before they even come close to needing PCIe 4.0 bandwidth. So either GPUs will become less efficient in how they handle data throughput from the GPU to RAM and CPU or we will need to see double the raw performance. It will likely be the first as it will allow GPU designers to forgo a certain amount of optimization in favor of performance upticks. I would hazard a guess that it will be at least 3 generations of GPU from now before we see the need for PCIe 4.0 from mid range up, 2 before we see flagship GPUs come close.

Yes I have seen the AMD keynote and saw a lot of x570 boards, also been following Gamers Nexus, Pauls Hardware, JayZTwoCents etc. The x570 boards come with cooling fans, and do make more heat. I mostly game so your right PCIe 3.0 is more than enough for GPUs probably until 2021 would be my guess. PCIe 4.0 is mostly for m.2 ssd storage. I'm more than happy with my m.2 ssd I have no need for faster than Max 3,500 MB. I'm using a Samsung 512gb Pro. I read PCIe 4.0 is supposed to to go 5,000 MB / sec but I'm good :D It's just that Gigabyte Enables PCIe 4.0 on X470, I guess their x470 line can handle it. I'm just happy I can upgrade to a 3800x CPU in 2 months.
