ASRock doesn't give a your problems. When you bought theirs mobo, next issues with it is only your headache. Next time, pal, don't even think about buying something from ASRock. It's a sh*t manufacturer: BIOS - poor, software - poor, support - lol, take two previous marks and multiply by infinity

I have never been able to boot into bios, and have gotten no support from asrocks help desk. I'm about to spend 200 bucks on a new motherboard but I thought I'd try one last time to ask for help. I'm still on the first bios version that shipped back when ryzen gen 3 came out. and I am completely lost, please send help

I did some research and after that disabled PBO and CPB in motherboard's bios. Also when I did that I noticed that RAM frequency was reset to 26xx and I enabled XMP again. CPU temperature dropped to 45C idle and 65C during games (73C max). It was last week.

Yesterday I noticed that cooler was too loud and fps dropped. I checked BIOS and again PBO and CPB were set to auto, RAM to 26xx. I set everything to desired again. Also I uninstalled Astock A-tunning from windows (I haven't used it and it doesn't provide anything I can't access from BIOS). I used PC all day - gaming, some movies couple of restarts in between to ensure that bios settings wouldn't reset. Everything was fine. Switched it off and went to sleep.

Today I started my PC and again all settings were set to their default values.

What could cause the issue? How can I fix it? Is it faulty motherboard?

It's ok, pal, this is BIOS from best mobo manufacturer, not a bug, it's feature

So,after 2 days using 3.90 on x470 Taichi, there's no benefits. Especially with overclocking ram to 3600. Previous bios more stable and allow to get 3600 on hynix afr, on 3.90 I can't overclock further 3200 (normal xmp mode). by the way: asus on x370 and x470 can work on 3600 with my ram on 1.0.0.4, custom clocks work fine (ryzen dram calculator). damn you ASRock

I tried a couple of things. Firstly, make sure the stock cooler is set to high. You'll know because it's unbearably noisy. I have also switched on ECO mode. Here are some figures running a script that uses 10 cores at nearly 100%:

Stock
Temp: CPU 76C, CASE 48C
Fans: 850 3260 1280rpm
Utilisation and core speed: 42% 4.03GHz
Runtime: 2:15.3 minutes

ECO:
Temp: CPU 71.5C, CASE 48C
Fans: 600 3150 1180rpm
Utilisation and core speed: 42% 3.93GHz
Runtime: 2:21.3 minutes

I've ordered a new cooler (arctic liquid freezer ii 240) which will hopefully give me similar or better cooling performance without making me want to throw it out the window. I'll probably stick with ECO mode, seeing as the runtime difference is slight.

Hey

I'm having the exact same issue as you except with a 3600.

Running p5.40 and I've tested everything I can possibly test.

Did you ever sort the issue out? I'm concerned I have a faulty chip.

The stock cooler is OK for gaming. Because games won't put all the cores to work at full load all the time.

But for full core usage workloads, you need a better cooler. (They will still run colder than P95 max power test, but they will still generate heat).

Yes, it's a different beast, even to Zen+. These CPUs tolerate up to 95繙C. It's within the normal limits. So don't really worry about temp.

If you want to have the cores working 24/7. I recommend you to use "Manual OC" with Underclock and Undervolt. You can run the cores at very low voltage (maybe less than 1.0 or 1.1v) and at lower frequency, and save a lot of money in energy bills. (The stock Precision boost curves add extra voltage to try to provide general stability). But if you follow this approach, try to stay below 1.15v-1.2v unless you read a lot about the topic and understood what is a safe all core voltage. (which is much lower than the one used by Precision Boost / Stock / Auto).


About the RAM issue. I recommend you trying the thaiphoon + DRAM calc solution (works for some, but not for all) and try to set up the ram timings manually, as well as the SoC Voltage and Fabric Clock.
I personally don't know a lot about this. I don't change all the settings, only 80% of them.


But I'm currently running my 3200Mhz "cheap" Micron-E memories at 3733Mhz 18/20/20/20 ("Safe Preset") with 1.45v dram voltage and it's 100% stable in my B450 ITX.
Only thing I should increase is the VDDG voltage, but the settings doesn't work in the B450 ITX BIOS for some reason.
But it is still stable. So I don't worry

Thanks for the response. I think as many have mentioned, it's a different beast to the i9 I have on my office computer. I'll be using it for machine learning / scientific work with sustained high usage, so I don't want it to cook itself.

Looking around the internet there's some talk about thermal paste. I did have a bit of a hassle getting the cooler on, so may have disturbed the pre-applied paste. Seems like a cheap thing to try, what do you think?

Also, any thoughts on the XMP issues?

- Reaching 90 under stress is really easy. I have a "nice" cooler (Noctua NH-U12S) and with 8 cores (3700X) with PBO enabled, I can reach 90C as well.
3700X with PBO consumes a bit more than a 3900X without PBO.
And a 3700X without PBO consumes less than a 3900X without PBO naturally.

If you don't use "PBO", you still have a nice high PPT limit in a 3800X/3900X, so you can try 2 options to lower the temps:

1) Enable ECO Mode. This will put lower Package Power. I think it will be similar to a 3700X if you have a 3900X. But a stock cooler, could still have a bad day under unrealistic stress, even with 3700X TDP limits.

2) Get a better cooler. Something really powerful that can handle 130W or more TDP. But know one thing, the better the cooler you put, the higher the frequency and voltages your CPU will demand. So the 3900X will always try to reach 90C (unless there are other limits like PPT/TDC/EDC).

As for the "idle temps". It's a different story. It's also normal to have high idle temps with Zen 2. This is because when the CPU is not stressed. The frequency goes high, it tries to reach the Boost Clock at 1.5v max. This makes the CPU sometimes hotter in idle (where cores are constantly jumping to 4.3Ghz+), than in a weak load (like gaming) where cores sometimes stay at 4Ghz~ or less, depending on the game, with a very stable load.
