32GB is the max advertised memory size for the Z68 Extreme4.
I am trying to move from a 16GB footprint (via 4x4GB) to a 32GB footprint (via 4x8GB) using Crucial CT102464BD186D ram. Crucial asserts that ram in 100% compatible with the Z68 Extreme4 motherboard. I can pick any two 8GB sticks and populate the same colored memory banks and the system boots, but if I use all four 8GB sticks simultaneously the system powers up, spins its wheels for about 5 seconds, powers off, and the powers up. There the process goes into an endless cycle. I am running the latest BIOS. I have have cleared the BIOS memory. I am looking for suggestions to get this system working at 32GB. Thoughts anyone? Note: my motherboard is NOT the GEN3 variant also I am running a 2600K cpu. |

I have found a work around.
Cleared CMOS memory. Populate only 16GB (i.e. two sticks) of memory. System would then boot for me. Once the system could boot, I entered into BIOS configuration and changed ONLY the DRAM Frequency from Auto to DDR3-1600. Saved the changes and rebooted and then powered down. Added the last 16GB (for now a total of 32GB) and the system booted. |
