Hi all, been having what I think are temps that are a bit high on my 3700x. I just ordered a tube of Noctua NT-H2, been using the NT-H1 figured I change and see. Also my CPU cooler is a Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B. My CPU fans I'm using are the Thermaltake Riing 120mm, in a push/pull config at max RPM. My case is a Corsair 230T with every fan being a Thermaltake Riing fan. Total fans in my case are 8 including my CPU cooler. All are running at max RPM and theres more than enough airflow going through my case. I have reached a high of 79c while playing Overwatch. I even put the thermal paste application 3 different times. Pea size, X, and what I read is recommended dots for the Ryzen 3000 CPU. None make a difference. Is this normal? I was hoping my CPU would not reach maybe between 70-73c at the most.

What I meant to say was 3 small dots on the CPU. I was looking at this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYT9ud_llkI   Fast foward to 1:30 where he shows you. Would also like to add that I have PBO disabled, it's running at stock. Though it does boost on its own to 4.250 - 4.375. XFR off as well, C-states enabled.

those are terrible temps since you tried reseating and not finding any changes i'd look towards the vcore. i'm guessing its over 1.5v right now based on those temps but i can be wrong.

i cant really compare with my current setup because different cpu and different cooling. but 80C is too much for a good cooler and more fans then my system

Hmm my vcore is when idle 1v or just slightly below 1v. While gaming it goes to 1.488 - 1.500 which is the normal voltage for a 3700x. Well once the new thermal paste comes I will reseat the cooler and see any changes. My vcore: https://ibb.co/ByLqtPG
I was just thinking that 79c was in a spike, using MSI RTSS my temps are in the 60s and sometimes touch the 70s but drop as soon as they hit the 70s.

liquid cool is the only way, example my case 1700x default consume extra 150 watts above idle consumption, when 100% load, CPU shield outside 50 celcius, room temperature 22 celcius. Radiator one is 420x140x80 plus radiator two is 420x140x28, both push pull.

then overclock to 3.9ghz plus 0.1v consume extra 250 watts above idle consumption, also 100% load, CPU shield outside 60 celcius.

see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4koN_pYFio4&feature=youtu.be

so much power used, only rely on fan's technology method is NOT enough.

From Robert Hallock "It is perfectly okay if your CPU is periodically using 1.4-1.5V to achieve boost frequencies, and you should see dips into sub-1.0V as the CPU goes into idle. These dips may be brief, and that's okay. Load voltages of around 1.2-1.3V are perfectly okay also. This is the processor working as expected."

So let me get my new thermal paste and reseat the cooler and see if anything changes

Got the new paste reseated the heatsink, seems a bit bettter. I tested it with the game I play the most Guild Wars 2 which is way more CPU bound. This is the temps in game: https://ibb.co/yVh2P1j It stays in the 60s with only a very brief spike in the 70s then drops down within 1 sec back into the 60s. I'm fine with it :D
