Hah, I couldn't leave it alone eh ? I've now managed to upgrade the BIOS to v1.60, so we'll have another go at the Win10 upgrade off the ISO diskimage.

Huh .?

Links please that state this 10586 Preview IS what Microsoft is providing for updating Win7 and 8.

Not a chance. "Effectively' doesn't work with me. MS would be "Effectively' shooting themselves in providing this BETA 10586 to its unsuspecting user base of millions/billions.

Download the proper Free Windows x.x to Windows 10 Update from the below link and "Effectively" resolve yours and mines problem.:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

I'm outta here. Something hinky ........

This IS effectively the retail version of Windows 10, it is the FREE upgrade for Win 7 & 8 users, obtained either by download or ISO using Microsoft's MediaCreationTool.

Why not simply install the retail Windows 10?

Hey, thanks very much to you gurus who took the time to reply to my message. I may just leave it until I buy a new desktop with Win10 installed. I do have another 2 Asus laptops I have upgraded to Win10 so I'll use those to play with Win10.

Anything labeled Preview Build is indeed BETA software. Slow Ring, Fast Ring, TH2. Not even declaring Final Build yet! Nothing I see resembling a product I can go to a store and purchase. BETA.

If you don't know how to update your BIOS, either read up on how to, or stay away from it altogether. Doing something haphazard while flashing is exponentially more hazardous than installing BETA OS and complaining while doing so.

There are no re-do's if you hose your BIOS. One and done.

So, how do I go about updating my BIOS ? Sounds like one of those processes that bricks your device if it goes wrong !

What "variety of failure messages" are you intoning here? From what devices?

Also, I edited my post above.
