I reset the bios by clearing CMOS and then my Crucial P1 NVME SSD stopped showing up. I've tried changing bios settings, taking the SSD in and out, putting the SSD in the M.2 other slot, and plugging in a USB key with windows installer on it to see if it would register but my hard drive would not show up no matter what I tried. The hard drive is definitely compatible as I've been using this PC for 4 years now and I don't think the hard drive died as it was working perfectly fine for me yesterday.

Hello,
When you plug in an NVME (PCIE) M.2 in slot M2_2, it will not work, it only support SATA M,.2 cards, so you must use M2_1. In BIOS check if the CSM (under boot) is disabled. when your OS (which release are you using?) is installed in MBR mode, it will not work when CSM is disabled. I think it could be related to the way the OS is installed. And your graphics card must support GOP, to be able to have CSM disabled. You could try to change the CSM setting, or a new installation in GPT (UEFI) Mode |

Hi i have had the same issue, my NVME ssd has been installed for the past 2y and working fine until the mb stopped recognizing it. I did no BIOS change/update, has been working for 2y with same settings.
I removed it and tried the other port but no luck too. So i tried the NVME on another computer and it works and has no defect. Went on to further troubleshoot this so tried 2 other NVME SSDs they are not recognized too. A SATA M2 drive is only recognized on the secondary port but not on the primary M2 port. And this is where i stopped to look for others with the same problems. I'm using bios rev. 1.50 as due to CPU limitation i cannot upgrade it further. Thanking you in advance for your help. Cheers. |

Adding on to the above...
Bear in mind that this happens before any OS is installed! The BIOS itself does not recognizes the NVME Ssd... therefore i cannot even install any OS. And i reiterate, my NVME Ssd was working fine for 2y on the M.2 Ultra port until it didn't. I was using a UEFI Windows 10 install. Thanks! |

Please check if there is a firmware update for the M.2.
Try to switch off the PSU, press the powerbutton for 20 seconds, and remove trhe BIOS battery for 5 minutes, then place it back. Now You have a factory reset, where als date and time are wrong. If the problem persists, contect the dealer, for an exchange. Also good to knopw is that the PCIE lanes, comes straigth from the CPU, there is nothing in between, so it can also be a CPU issue. |

Hiya threadzipper1957, many thanks for your prompt reply.
There are no further M.2 firmware updates, factory reset has been done already and CPU has been tested on another motherboards from other brands and it reads NVME Ssd just fine. I went online digging for more information on this and noticed several "ASRock B450M PRO4" users have had the same issue as i did, with no viable solution in sight. This is data going back to 2022 (the oldest and reliable data i could find). My board has lapsed it's warranty long time ago... it is pointless for me to contact the vendor again as they were the ones redirecting me to your support. At this point, i will just leave it at that and be left unhappy and sad that i cannot use the M.2 slots as i once did. As i'm using Pinnacle Ridge CPU i cannot further update my bios to more recent versions, as otherwise my CPU will no longer work on this mobo. Really appreciated the time you took to reply! Cheers |
