uninstalling NAV and Malwarebytes in favor of Defender made zero difference.

Suddenly, my computer is barely usable after years of great performance.
When the problem occurs, I encounter long delays in performance with web sites that require a lot of small interactions - like gmail search, or google docs, or even youtube. I have 1GB hard-wired fiber optic internet, speed tested and verified. I have been working with Verizon and because I have another computer, an Asus laptop, also hard-wired to the same router, that experiences none of these issues, and they claim it is my computer. Strangely, when I reset the Verizon fiber optic "ONT" box, the problem is resolved - but for less than one hour. I cannot figure out how resetting my network can so dramatically impact my computer, unless some kind of network buffer is overflowing. The processing power of the computer seems absolutely fine. I see nothing wrong in the performance monitors - memory, drive, etc - all seem fine. I flashed the bios up to 3.6 - no effect. I ran in "performance" and "standard" - no effect. (motherboard utility) I installed App Shop and updated all drivers (except for floppy since I have none and Realtek audio since audio is fine. I've tried flushing the DNS. Running windows network troubleshooter. resetting the winsock catalog. no effect. NOTE: I had, at one point, an error in the device manager - a bad PCI Encrypt/Decrypt. After I installed the latest and Chipset drivers from your site, this error went away - and now I have NO PCI Encrypt/Decrypt showing up in the device manager at all. Could that be related? Was this damaged or hacked? I ran full Norton antivirus scans and Malwarebytes scans - found nothing. Installed Intel LAN drives from asrock website - no effect. I ran memory tests - hard drive tests - found nothing. I tried fixing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 - no effect. I changed network cables. I changed coax jumpers. I shortened their lengths from ONT to router to <10'. No effect I disconnected everything I didn't need - all usb devices that aren't needed, Bluetooth dongle - no effect. I'm kind of losing my mind. It takes 10 seconds to run a search within gmail when the problem is happening. When the problem is not happening - less than 1 second. 10 seconds to paste a small image into gmail. I frequently lose connections to google workspace servers - as if my connection is constantly being interrupted - but not my laptop. That is lightning fast. Only this ASROCK PC. Bios 3.60 Ryzen 7 3800X 3900MHZ 32 GB 2x16 GSkill F4-3600C18D-32GTZN Gigabyte nvidia GTX 1660 Ti Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB a boatload of fans. It's cool as can be. I'm down to these possibilities: 1. I need a new motherboard. 2. I need to reinstall windows. 3. I need to uninstall Norton and use Windows Defender. 4. I need to try installing a PCI Network card. 5. I need to replace the Verizon ONT 6. I need ASROCK to come up with a brilliant easy fix. (please please let this be the one) |
