I want to buy a new AM5 mainboard and I figured out that customers are complaining about long boot times: https://www.amazon.de/Asrock-X670E-Steel-Legend-Socket/dp/B0BGPCH9C3

A view days ago, one of our largest it news publishers came out with the following news: https://www.heise.de/news/AMD-ermoeglicht-offene-Coreboot-Firmware-fuer-Epyc-Server-7534970.html

For those who don't speak german (or are to lazy to use google translate) it says that AMD is planning to publish a so-called "AMD Open-Source x86 Silicon Initialization Library" (openSIL). If I got this article right, this library could help developers for alternative UEFI/BIOS options like coreboot or libreboot. Is ASRock planning to publish coreboot versions for the above motherboard?

Coreboot is an open source and very thin UEFI alternative which is much faster compared to a stock UEFI solution (for customers who want more transparency and safety but also faster boot times an interesting alternative).

It's the first time I read about Coreboot (I'm outdated) and it sounds very good, we'll see what AMD and its Partners have in mind and hopefully my skepticism loses the battle, BIOS/UEFI/AGESA via Open Source it would be revolutionary ... at least from my ignorance

PS: Too lazy, me without translating from German and you without translating into English to post it here

Ok, good point from your side. Instead of translating the German article, I have an alternative one written in English (it's an international forum, so everybody should be able to contribute to this important topic): https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMD-openSIL-Open-Source

The Chromebooks (with Intel chipset) already have coreboot implemented and when you take a look on YouTube videos about coreboot than you realize that the boot time is also much faster compared to stock UEFI. On the other hand, coreboot is a really thin UEFI, so it's very likely that coreboot isn't offering the same amount of functions (so in the end it's up to the user which concept he/she prefers).

It was published today in our news. It seems when it comes to coreboot that MSI is taking the lead:

IMO your best contribution to us (and for you) would be to buy an AMD platform ASRock motherboard, test Coreboot and share your experience here

Good luck.
