I want to run 2 independent monitors from 2 independent graphic cards om a asrock 970 pro 3 mother board, which I understand has crossfire, this could be problematic. Can I have each video slot operate independently?

Crossfire is about 2 cards that to the outside world, work as 1 card, and will give an performance increase of Max 60%.
2 Separate cards, could work, but having each slot working indivdually I don't think, will work. Better would be to use a faster graphics card, with mutliple monitors, and just expand to the second, and third monitor, and each have its own content. |

In most cases, multiple GPU support is more of a software issue (operating system, drivers), not a hardware issue. But actually, BIOS is somewhat of a software, also, so that makes it a bit iffy. Ideally, BIOS would just leave the extra GPU alone, and then software can initialize it.
Windows 10 and later makes it relatively easy to support multiple GPUs, and you can do much cooler things with modern OS & virtualization, such as letting a Virtual Machine get full access to one of the GPUs. With modern hardware, I don't see a problem doing this, but 970 Pro3 is pretty old at this point (almost a decade old AM3+). So if you run into BIOS problems, you're unlikely to get much support. I actually think it'll work okay, but I can't recommend it. |
