Max installed memory on J3160-ITX

   Halloas reported in J3160-itx product page this asrock motherboard shipped with integrated CPU seems supporting max 16 GB , so 2x8GB if I want to make use of dual channel.

the question is how it is possible having 16GB as the intel J3160 has a max memory size of 8 GB.

Am I missing something?

is the remaining memory somehow used for other purposes like integrated Video?

	I would guess that it is a lot like Intel state the maximum supported RAM speed, even on "K" CPUs is 2133mhz when in fact you are able to run much higher frequency RAM provided a decent "Z" motherboard. From what I remember the Brasswell CPU line was not meant to support dual channel either but I know for a fact that it works on ASRocks boards that claim support for it. If it were not supported ASRock would not claim that it is. The have obviously facilitated it in the BIOS and board design.

	hallo first of all many thanks for your reply. From what I've understood from your reply the misunderstanding may depend on the dual channel memory support. But the specs from intel are quite clear and states that the dual channel is supported but still they specify 8 GB as maximum supported RAM. So from what I understand , this means that a mobo supporting dual channel will make use of such (declared) feature and could run over 2x 4 GB being fastest that a singol slot of 8 GB. the point I don't understand is how Asrock managed to support 16 GB as if it declares it I really know it does!! Just want to know how the mobo manages the "extra" 8GB not supported by the CPU

	I am afraid I don't know the technical aspects that permit the use of more RAM than intel claims is supported. All I know is that in many cases intel's listed specs and limitations are exceeded by manufacturers.
