    Posted: 29 Oct 2016 at 1:50am
New pc build with Z170 PRO4 MB and Windows 10 installation from USB stick. When i built the system everything seemed to go ok, i am able to enter the UEFI Set up utility and browse around. The problem is that the Asrock cd (labelled Asrock IIZ170-16) that came with the MB fails to work, i get the following error message:
Driver Disk preparer V1.08 Asrock Incorporation - all rights reserved
Model name: Z170 Pro4
This model is not supported!
Reboot system now or press any key to continue.

Apparently there is a USB driver on the cd that i need for my system to recognise my Windows 10 installation USB stick but the driver cd wont work. Any ideas? Is it the wrong cd?

Hmmm. lets begin with .........

Above the top PCIe x16 slot, what model of MB is silkscreened there?

Also, To the right of the CMOS battery is the BIOS chip. If you haven't yet updated the BIOS(do not do so at this point) there's a white sticker on it that states the BIOS revision it came from the factory flashed to. Assuming the MB is new, not refurb, second-hand, or open box, and you haven't yet flashed the BIOS, what is printed on the sticker?

OH! Wait!

Z170, duh.

Dis you process the Windows ISO with the USB Patcher that is available on the MB's download page(s)?

http://www.asrock.com/microsite/win7install/

I know it says 7

Thanks for your reply. On the MB it says Z170 pro4 and on the BIOS it says P 3.00. No i didn't patch the ISO because i am not really sure how to make the ISO and patch it, i have already downloaded all the drivers from the MB support page. I also just downloaded the Windows 10 ISO file from Microsoft but it is only about 3 GB compared to over 6GB on the USB stick. Just as a matter of interest is the cd the correct one?

Most likely the Support CD is. But you still need to patch the OS install media first and get your OS loaded/installed.

You need to follow the links directions to use that patch to create your USB installation media. It patches it so that the usb works, as w/o it there are no usb drivers loaded.

Ok man. I owe you an apology. It's been a long week here. I'm terribly sorry.

10 does not need the patcher.

Simply use the bootable installation media of 10 you have.

Hello, thanks for your help, i really appreciate it. The good news is that i discovered that i have a USB2 head on the motherboard so i changed the Windows 10 USB stick to that and i can install Windows 10 through that, i have tried and it does start to install. I quit the installation because i wanted to do some partition work on the hard drive first. It failed to recognise the Windows 10 USB stick when i plugged it into a USB3 slot. So i think the patch would be necessary if i didn't have a USB2 slot. I am using an old XP pc case and it has two USB2 slots on the front panel. Thank heavens for old technology!!! In order to make that "patch" i would need a Windows 7 pc which i don't have! What is bugging me is that the cd that came in the box was rejected! I don't know if it will install after i install Windows 10 this evening, i will let you know. Again thanks a million for your help.

Hello,

Windows 10 does not need a patch routine.

Win10 (1607) ISO with the tool Rufus on USB stick in the UEFI Mode.

USB stick under LAN port and then PowerOn, then press F11 to select Boot = UEFI.
Kind Regards,
JZ

The Support CD, for it to "run' , is Windows only. After the OS install.
