Hi,

I have recently built a new system and I am having a lot of problems with it crashing while under load.

MB: Asrock Z270Pro4
CPU: I5-7600K (Not overclocked)
Fan: Corsair H100 water cooler
GFX: Sapphire R9 Fury
Mem: 16Gb HyperX Savage 4x4Gb
PSU: Corsair 750W
OS: Windows 10

I do seem to be seeing high temperatures reported for the motherboard even though I have 5 case fans installed and the ambient room temp is <21°C. Under load I am seeing motherboard temperatures of >45°C. Is this normal/anything to worry about.

Any suggestions appreciated?

Thank you

I had a notebook with random crashes.. in the end it was a faulty memory.
Changed from 8 to 4GB, then it was rock solid.

Yeppers.

Seeings you'r ewater cooling you've now removed any airflow over the VRM section. These need airflow to keep cool.

To test this, place a fan over them blowing directly on/over them and see if your crashing under load ceases.

My bet, it ceases.

Keep us posted please.

Thank you for the suggestions

Memory - I will try memtest on my memory tonight and see if any errors are reported on the memory

VRM - I was hoping that with 5 separate fans I would have sufficient airflow inside the case but I will try as you have suggested.
I am at work at the moment and cannot visualise the layout inside the case but why do you think the watercooler will have obstructed the VRM?

Regards

1. Most importantly now that you do not have a conventional HS/F moving air over the CPU to cool the VRM section it will get hot. Hot enough to do what you describe.

2. That monster GPU, Fury R9, isn't helping much as it tends to enable a stale pocket of air in the upper left, right where the VRMs reside.

So, we come to 3. The two above only serve to aggravate an already tenuous warm/hot VRM section.

And last I knew Corsair AiO docs stated a need to install a fan over the VRMs.

For just the reason you have. They are now overheating and going into Protection Mode(lower performance/output) first, then shutting down completely in Safety Mode. Just as their circuits are designed to do.

Hi Wardog,

Would you recommend I sell my liquid cooling and install a conventional air cooler?

I already have a 120mm mounted near the top rear of the case which is blowing in the direction of the VRM. Do you think this will be insufficient?

Thanks again

Oh heck NO. Keep the Corsair. Your CPU will love you right back for keeping it chilled with water.

But the trade off is putting a fan in there to cool the VRMs. Then they too will reciprocate and not behave as they, I believe, are.

Most airfow via case fans doesn't create enough turbulence at the board level to be much help.

An inch above board level, yea. That's just the nature of things.

But that R9 Fury monstrosity surely acts a brick wall. Complicating matters in an area considered already lacking.

Meh. Place a fan, the 120mm above, over the VRms and post back the results.

I'm 99.999% sure you'll be surprised. And happy.
