Due to many problems with program installations I moved DVD drive from Asmedia SATA3_A4 to Intel SATA3_3 controller. Although I am fully satisfied with BIOS version 7.30, I found (maybe cosmetic) a bug. Now is DVD drive detected on Intel SATA3_3 port in Storage Configuration, but for SATA Device Type I see these options only: Hard Disk Drive or Solid State Drive and not CD/DVD ROM drive. In CD/DVD Boot menu I see my DVD drive correct. I do not know if in Storage Configuration the option for CD/DVD is missing or it is a bug of device autodetection. |

There has never been an option for a CD/DVD drive in the Storage Configuration, Device Type entries for devices connected to the Intel SATA ports. That is normal, nothing is missing. Use the HDD entry for optical drives. Actually, the only SATA ports that ASRock provides the SSD and HDD options for are Intel SATA ports. You may have noticed there is no Device Type option for the ASMedia SATA ports. Also, you learned that the ASMedia SATA ports don't work well with Optical drives. Many users report they have problems using optical drives (which are really ATAPI devices) on any of the add on SATA chipsets, like ASMedia or Marvell. That is also normal. The ASMedia SATA ports will not perform as well as the Intel SATA ports with SSDs, so be sure to always connect SSDs to the Intel SATA ports. |
