Thanks Parsec for the great explanation & links, for me if I can get the ram kit work & stable at around 29** Mhz I will be happy.
The problem I am facing is that I am constrained to low profile ram because of my cooler, the only available options I have in my place are: 1- HyperX Predator 32GB (16 x 2) HX424C12PB3K2/32 DDR4 2400Mhz CL12: 318 euro Listed in Taichi compatibility list 2- HyperX Predator 32GB (16 x 2) HX424C15FBK2/32 DDR4 2400Mhz CL15: 277 euro Listed in Taichi compatibility list 3- HyperX Predator 32GB (16 x 2) HX426C13PB3K2/32 DDR4 2666Mhz CL13: 324 euro Listed in Taichi compatibility list 4- HyperX Predator 32GB (16 x 2) HX426C16FBK2/32 DDR4 2666Mhz CL16: 300 euro Listed in Taichi compatibility list 5- HyperX Predator 32GB (16 x 2) HX430C15PB3K2/32 DDR4 3000Mhz CL15: 313 euro UNLISTED in Taichi compatibility list, same model but 16GB is listed. 6- Corsair vengeance lpx 32GB (16 x 2) CMK32GX4M2B3000C15 DDR4 3000Mhz CL15: 280 euro UNLISTED in Taichi compatibility list These are all the options I have, please help me decide (I will not hold you any responsibility) at least you know better than me. If only all DDR memory was so generic that it could work with any system! DDR3 memory is not generic enough to work with every system that uses it. The memory controller which is part of the CPU has specifications for the memory chips used in memory modules. Those specifications are a bit complex, and is something we rarely see besides in datasheets that might be available from a memory manufacture, and the processor manufacture. Normally memory is sold as compatible with a board's chipset, like X99, which also includes the compatible processors. So the memory is matched to those memory controllers. Not that each processor has different memory chip requirements, but that is only one part of memory compatibility. Also, define what it means for memory to work with a platform? Your memory will most likely work at its default speed with Ryzen, which for X99 memory is 1866 - 2133. But it is less likely that it will work at higher speeds, and once in the Ryzen memory OC territory, over 2667, that's when it is much less likely to work. Just read some of the many threads in this forum about Ryzen memory compatibility and issues over clocking memory on Ryzen. That is the main issue we have with Ryzen. You said you wanted to use 32GB of memory, but did not specify a speed. Does that matter to you? One main hint is memory that uses Samsung B-die memory chips works best with Ryzen. Next, the more memory you use (over 16GB), the more difficult it is to have it at a faster, over clocked speed. All memory speeds above 2667 are memory over clocks for Ryzen processors, and are not guaranteed. If you can run memory at 3200 with Ryzen, you are doing very well. Beyond 3200 is extremely good, and rare. 2933 is a common limit for many Ryzen users, with 16GB of memory. My G.SKILL 3200 FlareX 16GB (2 x 8GB) memory, designed for Ryzen, will not easily work above 2933. Without knowing what type of memory chips your X99 DDR4 memory uses, and the speed you want, estimating the odds of it working without any other information (ie, other users experience) is simply a guess. The lists I provided above are the best we have currently. Most if not all memory manufactures have not updated their existing, older memory product's information as compatible with Ryzen. |

Thanks Nangu, I did check it before posting and did not find my model, but what I don't understand is that the ram are DDR4, why wouldn't they work? I don't have time to order a board and test my rams and then find out they are not working and then wait again for new ones to arrive, so in your opinion what are my odds? |

Anyway, you can try before purchasing new memory, but XMP settings on those are for Intel processors, so is not guaranteed it can boot out of the box at OC settings on Ryzen.

Hello,
I'm about to get x370 Taichi, and I already have 4X4 16GB: corsair DDR4 cmk16gx4m4a2666c15r http://www.corsair.com/en-us/vengeance-lpx-16gb-4x4gb-ddr4-dram-2666mhz-c15-memory-kit-red-cmk16gx4m4a2666c15r I had those with my X99 pc that recently died, they have 2 xmp profiles: 2666 and 2800 will they work with x370 taichi and hopefully at 2800 MHZ? Thanks! |
