Hi there -
I have a new build with the following hardware: AB350M Pro4, flashed to the latest version (3.30) Ryzen 1500X T-Force Vulcan 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 3000 Model TLGD416G3000HC16CDC01 (slots A2,B2) EVGA 1060 SC 3GB WD Blue 250GB SSB EVGA 650W Gold PS Memtest86 passes all memory tests. However, I am unable to get OS setup to work via USB - I have tried both the latest Windows 10, as well as a Linux distro (Mint 18.3). After starting the boot from the USB, Windows hangs right away (it brings up a screen with the Windows logo and some progress circle dots, but then it hangs there), and similar behavior with the Linux setup - it gets thru some of the initial setup, but then hangs or resets. The USB boot device is plugged into a USB2 slot on the motherboard. I have tried a number of different boot compatibility settings, no luck getting things to work. Any advice or further troubleshooting help would be appreciated! Thanks! Seasa Edited by seasa - 07 Dec 2017 at 8:31am |

Hi datonyb - I have tried both with all settings reset, as well as with the auto-detected XMP profile (which correctly sets the voltage, clock rate etc for the RAM). My guess is that I have a defective motherboard :(

sease, you definitely want to install the OS with reset BIOS settings. So, please open the BIOS, hit F9 and then F10. I recommend you stick with W10. I hope you created your USB stick using the Media Creation Tool. Make sure to safely remove the USB stick after writing. Boot using F11 to select the boot device. Select the UEFI - USB stick and be sure to finalize your install media as GPT. Two things to try: a different install media and one memory stick at a time. Also try a full format of your install media. Good luck and enjoy, John.

ok to add to above
only ever install or try to install windows with stock bios defaults no overclocking ram (this includes setting xmp) this is esp. important with ryzen as we find we usually have to manually tweak the ram after to get it stable another point to note is installing windows via a usb , make sure it is the very latest release, we have had similar issues with early windows 10 versions (you ARE trying to install win10 yes ? ) if so just use the windows own media creation tool google it and it takes you windows own website which will create the bootable usb stick |

To follow up on this - it turned out to be a bad motherboard. I ended up picking a different (brand) MB from a local retailer to test out my suspicion that the MB was bad, swapped everything back in, and it worked like a charm. So RMA#-ing the original MB.
