Decided to have a look in BIOS (X370 Fatality ITX ac BIOS 3.10) to see how to OC my 2400  Crucial Ballistix to 2666 ( no heavy GPU stuff so nothing dramatic required, just read in sticky here that 2666mhz is the sweet spot for users such as me ..
Not quite sure how to read what I see, so comments welcome.
We all have to start somewhere.............

The line "DRAM Frequency"

Click on the item "DDR4-3733" and you will be offered a myriad of choices.

You chose 3733 previously, which Boot Training obviously corrected for. Choose 2666 from the list and post back the results.

Hint: When Enables, AM4 Advanced Boot Training will maybe override your selection, so consider that.

A Primer of sorts. Ryzen/ThreadRipper DRAM settings and their function.

The options available will vary from board to board, BIOSes too.

as above really

the ram may well jump to 2666 with those loose timings (maybe set the ram volts to 1.35~1.375)

you may need to adjust 'fail count' to 5 (top option second linked picture)

and before patting yourself on the back turn it off leave 10 mins and cold boot it

the cold boot with overclocked ram is the hard part to get right Ouch

As you suggested, and straight to 2666............so very happy with that..........i know its a fleabite compared to what some people are attempting and getting, but  this is only an R3-1200 with an R7 240 2GB........ and destined for a RavenRidge next month anyway......or t least after first  few reviews signal its good and stable......So 2666 is great!
Thanks again for the guiding hands and words you guys, much appreciated.

HaHa....You have me sussed Datonyb!.I know I`m a wuss......but whole OC thing is new to me, only the Ryzen platform being so flexible and amenable to a tweak , whilst at the same time benefiting from faster ram, given me the urge to at least have a go....
I admit, I am sore tempted to keep on pushing, see what it will go to...........
It is cheap ram, but by a few accounts decent enough, Crucial Ballocks, sport 2400, 2 x8Gb and dual, not just 2 sticks, and was £65 last October from Amazon.........Sheeesh.
Just run it at 2666 a day or so, then maybe another tweak.........
