CPU: i5-8600k

problem is
my Graphics card only uses 8x instead of 16x lanes.

M.2_3 is only shared with SATA3_3
https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/Z370%20Taichi/index.asp#Specification
If M2_3 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_3 will be disabled.

This doesn't bode well for you!

Max # of PCI Express Lanes - 16

well then i will just live with that because its just a loss of 1% power overall.
It maybe some sort of compatibility issue becaue when i first installed windows i almost had to force feed the driver into windows over some shady tricks because the PC always crashed during a normal driver install..

But it's not a compatibility issue. It's a math issue.

Your 8600K has 16 lanes. 4 are used with the M2 drive and 8 are used/left for the RX480.

If you want to tinker, pull the M2 drive and in its place do a cheap install of Windows. My guess is by freeing up those 4 M2 lanes your RX480 will be running x16.

well i just tried pulling the m.2 it stays at 8x

I think i will just live with it as it is not a big deal and everything is running smooth and stable

Was just curious because it was nowhere mentioned in the manual that this m.2 is using up lanes from the GPU

Just pulled it? Or did you remember to reset the BIOS after also?

The M2 doesn't "use' lanes from the GPU, that I can tell.

Your CPU provides 16 lanes. What with 4 being used up via the M2 installed, that leave 12 free. Unfortunately there is no Spec for PCIe x12, so 8 it is .
