Just tossing this out there to see if anyone has any suggestions for this situation, before I go the RMA route.
MB: X370 TaiChi CPU: Ryzen 5 1500x GPU:R7 260X DDR5 2GB GPU Drivers: range of Catalyst 14 and 15 as well as Adrenalin 17 and 18 RAM: HyperX 8GB PS: Corsair VX550 BIOS: 3.2 updated from 2.4 System crashes at some random point in time after any Radeon software is installed for the GPU.No games or programs need to be running, once counted to about 60 at the login screen and it crashed. Even upgraded to Win 10 and installed the latest Adrenalin drivers... it worked fine for about 2 days and then started crashing while I was in the browser, not even playing any games. Tried updating BIOS, switching PCIe slots, installing different OS on a different HD. Have tried installing Win 7 64-bit and Win 8.1 64-bit and even on a fresh installation the system will crash eventually and reboot without a blue-screen. What is odd is that the crash time has varied significantly with the FIRST install of an old Radeon driver, like Catalyst versions 14 or 15. Has worked for about a week in one case and then subsequent reinstalls makes no change. Rapid crashes (under 10 mins). As a troubleshooting step to try and identify which hardware component it could be I swapped over the PS, RAM and GPU to an Intel MB. Installed latest Adrenalin drivers (18.2.1). So far (over 72 hours) no problems. I've run Video Memory Stress tests and no problems reported. Trying to get another GPU to see if any problems appear but wondering if the R7 card might simply be too old for the TaiChi? Does the TaiChi require cutting/bleeding edge GPUs?? Might it be a Ryzen issue? |

Hi DaytonB
So the TaiChi and 260X could be incompatible? Wish I could get a definitive answer from either ASRock or Sapphire about that! So far Sapphire support basically said that 'the card isn't under warranty and it's probably the card!'. Convenient way to force a purchase! ASRock support also replied to say the MB is optimized for Win 10... which I've just verified won't run the card either. Well I have another old GPU that I'm waiting to borrow.... not even sure what it is but beggars can't be choosers. As to the 'windows supplied driver'... hmmm, you mean the WHQL drivers? Didn't think about that. Found a site with some old Catalyst WHQL drivers, going to dload and try out a couple! Thanks for the input! |

pokkoloco, my search says you should be using Adrenalin Edition 18.3.1 Optional. Optional is because it was just released today. What version of W10 are you running (use winver in a Run dialog or command prompt). Make sure to get your Chip Set drivers here: https://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Enjoy, John. EDIT: As long as you are being brave with drivers, I suggest you try BIOS/UEFI Beta 4.41 - bridge 3.30. Please use Instant Flash after F9 and F10. If you are getting a BSOD, please compress minidump folder and upload to where I can take a look. EDIT:Really not too crazy about these third party diver DLs, but here is one I have used: http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php?lang=en Edited by MisterJ - 06 Mar 2018 at 5:30am |

Hi MisterJ
Hmm, yeah I guess I didn't post my OS! Partly because I tried 'em all! Current OS is Win 10 Pro 64 bit. I tried the previous 18.2.1 and even the 18.2.3.... not holding out much hope for this 18.3.1 but heck, worth a shot over the RMA hassle! Was just about to dabble with some old Catalyst drivers but I'll give this a roll of the dice and report back. Thanks for the update about these updated drivers! |

*Crossing fingers*
Ok, so Adrenalin 18.3.1 installed and unusually it didn't prompt to reboot.... still I decided to reboot and so far so good. Then again the 18.2.1 had installed and worked for a couple of days before walking off the job.... So, I will report back. With luck it will be a couple of weeks before I do, I'm giving this about a month before returning a verdict. But at the least, thanks Datonyb & Misterj for your feedback! |

Kee-rash. ...sigh... Ok, going to try those old timer Catalyst drivers for my old timer GPU.... Maybe two wrongs will make a right? Or something? |

Chipset drivers got updated to 18.3.1 once I ran the Adrenalin driver installation...
And umm, I'm a bit terrified of that newer BIOS. Saw some posts indicating that BIOS 4.40 can cause a bit of grief...so I'm pretty hesitant to mess with that. Fact is, once I stay with the Basic Display Adapter (under Win 10) or Standard VGA adapter (Win 7) it stays running! Sadly I lose quite a chunk of usefulness... but it is delivering that loss of usefulness in a very stable and reliable manner! As for BSODs, nary a one. Got crashed out with the Catalyst 13.12 driver while at the Desktop and Event Viewer doesn't even reflect the usual 'Previous Shutdown was Unexpected' log entry. Going to try a different HD and fresh Win 10 install with these latest drivers tmrw. Maybe there is some software conflict as this is a Win 10 upgrade. Of course I do remember trying a fresh Win 8.1 install with the 18.2.1 driver and it crashed out too... This thing has taken the wind out my sails, just going to coast along with Basic Display Adapter for now... Thanks for the responses though! |
