Board/Box serial number mismatch

Well my A320M Pro4 shows 77M0XB046907 on the box but the board has 7086C24F2739(I think, the second and third digits are really hard to read) on it.  Also the part number on the box is 90-MXB540-A0UAYZ and on the board it's 80-MXB540-A1A04.  After reading the other thread that was locked I'm really worried about this thing booting up.  I'll know within 2 days, final parts are arriving tomorrow and Wednesday.

Thanks, but I'd rather have one of the mods here answer me rather than another newbie.  Needless to say the system is assembled waiting on the m.2 drive, hard drive and RAM to arrive tomorrow to see what happens.

Those serials are from completely different batch numbers. When you get your parts, test and see if you get post. The board has likely been put in the wrong box after a return by the retailer. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, if they tested the board and it worked then you should be fine. 

I would still contact them (reseller) and inform them of the mixup, provide them with photo evidence of the mismatch so they have it on record. This way, if you have any issues and need to claim on warranty or RMA, you won't have difficulties due to the SN mixup. This is not an uncommon issue. A user buys 5 boards, sends one back in the wrong box or their tech department is testing 10 returns and puts a good one in the wrong box etc. Typically it is an issue most retailers will try to avoid but it happens more than many people think.

Always play on the side of caution with things like this. You need to inform the retail outlet that your serial numbers don't match. The last thing you want is to need warranty and have it denied because they accuse you of board swapping. Don't panic though, it is unlikely they will give you any trouble. If the board has ever been returned, that will be on record and they will know what happened.

Well the board was sold as new so I'm thinking the mix up occurred when they were flashing the BIOS to support Ryzen APU's.  It was not marked as a refurb board when sold and by law it has to be if it was a return sent back to the retailer.

If the board is in the wrong box, not even the same batch, it did not happen at ASRock. I was given detailed information regarding how these boards were updated by ASRock, believe me when I say, it isn't possible that your board was switched during flashing, it is a physical impossibility, especially considering the board and box serials are not even in the same sequence. 

There are numerous reasons a new board can be unboxed and repackaged and still sold as new. Boards are only marked as a refurb if they have been out to a client and returned. In house testing, product inspection, packaging replacement due to physical damage to the packaging but not the contents. Should or shouldn't happen, they do. Marking anything "refurb" means profit lost and every retailer does everything possible to avoid that.

Regardless, my advice still holds. If the serial number does not match, report it to your retailer. It could cause you issues down the road even if the board works flawlessly now. At least this way they will have the board's actual serial number associated with your purchase for warranty purposes later.

I'm working at an IT-Store and have some experience, besides I'm a another "another newbie", at forums ;)
ASRock doesn't care much. Mistake by seller.

There is nothing wrong with the board or numbers.  They just do not match.  The serial number on the box will match the serial number near the CPU slot.  The part number on the box will not match the number on the board as it is not a part number, as far as I can determine.

I am still waiting on a response from Newegg/ASRock but I suspect that I will be waiting for many many months if ever I am told anything.

I RMA'd my new board because the number did not match and when I got the newer board back, the numbers on the motherboard were the same as the one that I had sent in, even though there was a new serial number on the box and on the board that matched.  That is how I know that the boards were different, by the serial number, even though the number on the motherboard did not  match the part number on the box.

I bought 5 A320M-DGS off Newegg, and none of them have the part# or the serial# match between the mobo and the box.

I found out because one was dead of arrival, and I'm trying to find the box it came in off the 5 mobo.

What gives?
