Need some advice on what CPU i should use with my EVGA 1080ti the cpu is holding it back i think.

I have an ASRock X79 Extreme4 Motherboard with a

Intel[R]Core[TM] i7-3820CPU@ 3.60Hz 16 Gig of Ram.

I ran a test here at UserBenchmark

I dont know what exactly what CPU would fit this Motherboard so any advice would be great to have, thank you.

Check here: https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X79%20Extreme4/index.asp#CPU

Take a look at the Xeons, if you can get a 6 core 12 thread variant with a core clock of 3.4ghz or higher it should be decent with that GPU. Just make sure you don't spend too much, once you get over $400 for a CPU you would be better off upgrading the entire platform and going with a B360 motherboard and a core i5 8400. The new 6 core i5 will do a lot better than anything on that list. The HEDT product stack has never been the best for gaming, per core clocks > more cores.

If you can pick up a cheap Xeon hexacore with hyperthreading though, that would be a significant upgrade for you. The i7 CPUs still command quite a premium but the Xeons are coming out of retired servers en-mass so there are a lot of them out there and pricing is much more palatable.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Many thanks for the reply i ran another test on the PC the score was better.

I can get an Intel Core i7-4930K Extreme 3.4 - 3.9GHz, Six Core Processor, 12 Threads
at a resonable price, will it be much better than the one i have just now.

Intel Core i7 3820 Quad Core CPU (3.60GHz, 10MB Cache, Socket 2011, 130W, Sandy Bridge
is the one i use now.

Thanks for your help again.
