Hi,

I have a Asrock Z270M Mainbaord and I am not able to convince it to detect my Samsung SSD 970 Pro M.2 PCIe Nvme SSD. What I did so far:

- Update Bios to latest version (2.30)
- Clear CMOS
- disconnect everything except the M.2 SSD (no SATA devices, no add in cards)
- tried both Ultra M.2 Slots

In the BIOS the NVMe section doesn't even shop up. In Storage configuration it says "not detected" on both M.2 slots. I tested the SSD in an ASUS Board and it gets detected right away. I then tried the SSD in PCIe Adapter and put it in last slot and there it gets detected and I can boot off it. Why the hell does this not work in the M.2 Slots?

Thanks in advance.
Christian

this might be a rare case of a harddrive not being supported.
U have any other m.2. to test with?

I can try to borrow another m2 to test but why does it work with an adapter then?

Maybe there is some beta bios floating around? I mean the samsung 970 is quite a common ssd and last bios is pretty old.

Today a friend borrowed me an Intel Optane NVMe SSD and it worked in the upper Ultra M.2 slot but strangely not in the lower one. I then swapped in the 970 Pro and again it didn't work. I really don't get that....Please let me know if you any more ideas. Thanks!

I already tested the 970 in another sys and it works fine. It also works via PCIe Adapter in the Asrock Boards but not the M.2 Slots...

Then i guess the 970 is not compatibel with your board.
Its getting detected via an adapter because your system recognizes your adapter and the adapter tells the system theres a 970 in the system.

well, I guess I am not the only one who uses a 970 Pro on an Asrock Z270 Board. Maybe ASrock themselves can shed some light on this?

And this also doesn't explain why the Optane SSD is only working in one of the two Ultra M.2 Slots.
