Hi All,
I currently have an X470 taichi AM4 running R7 2700X CPU with BIOS version 2.00. I've just oredered an R7 5700X to replace it. - Should I update the BIOS to 4.70 or use one of the newer Beta versions? - When I go to flash the new BIOS, should I do this when the 2700X is still in the machine or after I have installed the 5700X? - Currently running 2.00. Should I install any prior version of the BIOS before 4.70 or beta versions? Many Thanks X20 |

There is a 5.10 BIOS version for your board that is newer than the Beta versions.
You will want to update using the 2700x then install the 5700x after the update has successfully completed. Make sure you restore factory defaults in your BIOS before updating, it helps prevent bad flashes. I don't see any bridge BIOS versions listed for your board so in theory you should be able to just update directly to 5.10. If in doubt, contact ASRock Tech Support: https://event.asrock.com/tsd.asp Ask them what you need to do to update from 2.00 to 5.10. You will need to use the 2700x for the update, that much I am certain of. Good luck |

I'm in a similar scenario..
Current System - X470 Taichi BIOS - P1.10 (factory) AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor 3.70 GHz New Chip Upgrade - AMD Ryzen 9 5950x 16 Core 3.4GHz 1 - Should I just jump to newest 5.10 BIOS version, or gradually bring it up as if I'm updating it. (like I should have been all along..) 2 - When do I install the new chip? - Update to 5.10 with current AMD7 THEN install AMD9 or - Install AMD9 THEN update to BIOS 5.10 Thank you so much! Andrew |

Hi Andrew, I upgraded from a 2700X to an 5800X3D (which is even a later chip than the 5950X), so perhaps my experience is helpful. - A few years ago I got my x470 Taichi with an 2700X and soon after the build I upgraded my BIOS from 1.1 to P2.00. - Earlier this year I got an 5800X3D and upgraded the following way: 1. Reset BIOS to default, save and reboot 2. Installed the (then latest) BIOS 4.90. I found that I could boot this BIOS with my 2700X 3. Swapped the 2700X out and installed the 5800X3D 4. Did another BIOS reset to default for good measure So you'd want to upgrade the BIOS before upgrading the CPU. Re. intermediate steps, upgrading the BIOS to P2.00 before upgrading to 5.10 is worth considering, given that so many older BIOS versions only allow an upgrade from P2.00. Version 5.10 doesn't specify that, but that might be an oversight. You could email Asrock to find out (or just upgrade to P2.00). Since an upgrade from 2.00 to 4.90 worked for me, I don't expect any problems with a direct upgrade from 2.00 to 5.10, but once again you could ask Asrock (particularly, if you're already emailing them about whether to use 2.00 as an intermediate step.) Hope that helps a bit. |
