Hello,
After installing a new Crucial NVMe SSD the PC freezes in the early boot process (while displaying "F2 for UEFI/BIOS, F11 Boot Menu" etc) After shut down and removing the SSD from the PC everything is OK again. Mainboard: Asrock B450 Steel Legend CPU: Ryzen 7 2700 (Pinnacle Ridge) SSD: CT2000P3SSD8 "Crucial P3 PCIe 3.0 NVMe 2280 M.2 SSD" I installed the SSD in Socket M2_1 (PCIE4 is not occupied). My current BIOS version is 2.60 All later BIOS versions except 4.60 say "*ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if you are going to use Pinnacle, Raven or Summit Ridge CPU on your system." Crucial claims compatibility https://www.crucial.de/compatible-upgrade-for/asrock/b450-steel-legend#ssd Any solutions? Does BIOS 4.60 change anything regarding this problem? Greets |

crucial P3 drive is not compatible with your mainboard
if you look up on your mainboard storage compatibility list https://www.asrock.com/mb/amd/b450%20steel%20legend/index.asp#Storage then there is with small letters storage device compatibility link which points to this tech notes: https://www.asrock.com/support/qa/Technical%20NNotes%20-%20Storage%20Device%20Compatibility.pdf which states that crucial P3 is not compatible unless you use pci-e to m2 adapter Edited by kerberos_20 - 20 Jan 2024 at 2:09pm |

Thank you for the answer.
Can it still be used as boot disk if using a PCI-E-to-M.2 Adapter ? I mean to use it for some OS, not just for data. |

I got an M.2-NVMe-SSD-PCIe-Adapter for PCIe x4 and installed it on the mainboard at PCIE4 (x4).
But the same problem, the PC freezes at beginning. A red LED on the adapter lights up at booting. Any ideas? But what do the Technical Notes mean then? "Due to the mismatch Pin define, the onboard M.2 slot is not compatible with following M.2 SSDs. To use the following M.2, please use the M.2 to PCIe adapter." I wonder if there is some "pin mismatch", why should it then work with PCIe? This could be the same mismatch. |

In the meantime the tech notes have been edited. Even if you use a PCIe to M.2 adapter now the Crucial P3 is NOT listed as compatible anymore. |

The SSD I used above is not compatible at all. PCIe adapter does not help.
