One of my options to go from AM4 to AM5 one day has been the ASRock's X670E Steel Legend because, besides of having a fair price , it also has TWO USB 3.2 headers along 1 Type C header, wich'd benefit from a new tower (Read on)
I'm coming from this build: -ASUS X570 TUF GAMING PLUS -3800x NO OC + Noctua NH-U12S Chromax Black -32GB Crucial BALLISTIX BL2K8G32C16U4B -GIGABYTE RTX 2070 Super White OC (Has coil whine now depending of the game) -CORSAIR AX860 PSU -Thermaltake Core V71 Proposed upgrade: - The Steel Legend - 7800X3D (NO OC) + Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black - 32GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE 6000mhz CL30 (QVL!) - GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Super or Ti Super - CORSAIR SHIFT RM1000x - Be Quiet! DARK BASE PRO 901 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FYzMKX Total would be around 2250??(Spain has slightly higher prices for weird reasons, otherwise 2020$~) My doubts are: -The biggest fear is from what I've heard people having issues with the audio. Some mentions using soundcards over here on Reddit (Not my case), while on ASRock's site.... Something worse: TV. My plan was to also use my LG C3 TV to watch movies and play games from my PC via HDMI 2.1 cable (wich can only output 1440p 120hz for now due to my GPU limitations). Are these issues still present?. Wouldn't want to buy the mobo and end up returning it because of this... Source of TV issue https://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=25599&PID=111673 -Installing the latest NON BETA BIOS is safe?. Many people are having different stories but might be because they OC/XMP their memory/CPU, but what about non-OCers? -I do NOT plan to overclock nor XMP/DOCP at all (Had a tragedy with a Z170 board i do NOT want to repeat!). Will i still be able to make it work?. My actual build's set this way (No OC/XMP/etc) and works without BSODs since a long time -When it comes to the audio codec, how does it compares with my motherboard?. Will i still be able to listen to things better or will i have lower volume, cracklings, interferences, etc?. My speakers are a CREATIVE PEBBLE V3 with USB-C , wich sounds slightly louder and better when plugged to the mobo's USB C port. -I have 1000MB fiber network. Should i put the ethernet Cat6 cable to the 1Ghz port or would the 2,5Ghz one work better? Anything else i should know? |

With AMD boards I generally test the shipped BIOS version before doing any updates.
If that does all I need it to then I leave it be. Updating can often cause more issues than it solves, bad flashes not withstanding. Unless I am misunderstanding the specs of your speakers, it seems they use their own discrete audio device though USB C, in which case they shouldn't suffer any issues from HDMI audio transport. I can't be 100% certain however. As for the TV, the majority of issues I seem to be finding tend to point toward firmware issues on the devices themselves (TVs). I always prefer using DP over HDMI, it's more reliable and has a more defined standard. You shouldn't have issues with the ASRock board but even with every angle covered in your research there is always that small chance something won't play nice. This is true of every manufacturer however. The audio issues seem to be platform specific rather than manufacturer specific from what I can tell. Honestly, your current setup with a decent GPU upgrade and possibly a 5800x3d/5950x3d etc will bring you up to near enough the same performance as an AM5 upgrade. Then I would wait for AMD's 8000 series which is right around the corner now. That should iron out many of the current teething issues being a more mature platform. Then you can just swap in the upgrade components when the time comes. There will always be some risk of bugs etc with any upgrade these days, usually they can be resolved but sometimes they can be persistent until AGESA updates fix them properly. Any X670E Steel Legend users please chime in with your experiences here. I don't own the board so I can only go off what I see around the web. I can say that typically issues you find will be the exception, people will always make a fuss over an issue but not many people will bother saying anything if they have no problems. Unless you see a disproportionately large number of complaints vs competing boards, usually it isn't worth worrying about. Good luck with the upgrade and feel free to drop any further questions here.
