HI.
I have a MUCH slower PC after the latest BIOS upgrade. PC details below: Z790 PG Lightning DDR5 Corsair 5200 32GB Intel 13900K 280mm AIO lots of fans in push/pull config. I went from CPU speed 4.9-5.7Ghz down to 3.5-4.6 Ghz ====================================== I was running an older BIOS (10.xx I believe it was) and things were fine as far as speed, but I was having video card driver crashes randomly and frequently (like every hour or so). I tested my video card in a known stable PC (my sons) and this did not happen so the video card is fine. I then though, OK-Old BIOS (at work we update BIOS regular to avoid these types of issues), so must be time to update. I had implemented the XMP profile and set the intel defaults so I disabled XMP reset BIOS to defaults. The I flashed the latest BIOS Z790-PG-Lightning_16.02.ROM after reboot, I leave it on performance setting (the two modes have changed names since BIOS 10.xxx - it used to be load BIOS defaults or Load Intel limits). I reboot to Windows and check task manager without doing anything else. My CPU speed has dropped by a LOT. BEFORE BIOS update at idle 5-5.4 Ghz Before in use in gaming and/or media manipulation the CU ran between 5-5.7 As to the above numbers I DID get drops to 4.6 - 4.9 when the intel algorithm decide that advantageous boost to performance was costing to much heat but,the CPU speed would drop for a second, maybe two then right back up to 5.4-5.7Ghz After the BIOS update I have not yet tested speed in games or media manipulation however, my CPU is now running between 3.5-7 and 4.6-7 Ghz. This is a drastic loss of speed with a BIOS update. I DID re-implement the XMP profile I DID set the BIOS to performance mode. I am going to try then other mode for the BIOS but if performance mode is such a drastic loss of speed I don't hold much hope for the other mode to be faster-I believe it will be slower. I will try after I post this. I am benching the CPU right now as I type this and it is getting 4.4Ghz--I mean thats just way to slow for this CPU/Motherboard/AIO combination. Intel advertised this CPU as being capable of 5.8Ghz with the proper cooling (360mm AIO) AsRock also promised these speeds with the proper cooling and motherboard settings. Otherwise I'd have purchased a EVGA Z790. ANY help in getting my speed back would be greatly appreciated. |

I cannot even get 5.0Ghz oput of this 5.8Ghz CPU BEFORE the BIOS update I would see regular 5.6-5.7Ghz and while gaming a rock steady 5.3-5.4 Ghz... I have the current BIOS set to defaults except for XMP profile with performance mode selected. My other choices it seems are standard mode and power saver-both of which I assume, based on their names, will slow my PC down further. Should I contact support maybe? I see people looking at my thread but no one is posting any ideas, answers, thoughts, so I am assuming no one knows how to fix this? |

LOL I just tried: Standard mode: I get 1.2-2.5Ghz Power Savings: I get 0.97Ghz -1.30 Ghz OMG I am seriously annoyed right now. This is going over to support. This is pathetic. Anyone who does reply with any suggestions know that I DO thank you very, very much. |
