I purchased a B650E Taichi Lite motherboard for a new build. I used the Flashback procedures to flash the BIOS to the latest version 3.06. Unfortunately this bricked the mobo and I had to return and order a new one. I went through the troubleshooting steps with Asrock Tech Support but couldn't get the board to post at all. They allowed the return.
I completed the new build with the new mobo without flashing the BIOS and the system is up and running just fine on version 2.03. However, I'd like to update the BIOS to the latest version but I'm afraid of bricking another board. Should I stay with what I have or attempt to update. What procedures should I go through to flash? Any tips or advice? Thanks Ryzen 7 7800X3D B650E Taichi Lite G.Skill Flare X5 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVME RTX4070 Ti Super MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 850 watt |

Dear Customer,
Thank you for the posting. For this case, if the system is operating normally, we recommend maintaining the current BIOS version. If you still wish to update the BIOS, please refer to the following link to update the BIOS using Instant Flash tool. https://www.asrock.com/support/BIOSIG.asp?cat=BIOS10 Thank you ASRock TSD |

Maintaining the current BIOS version 2.03 means this poster would still be running FW that doesn't have the LogoFail security vulnerability patch. FW 2.06 is needed at a minimum for the security patch. IMO, it is poor advice to recommend customers use old FW that has security vulnerabilities which also prohibits them from improved performance and hardware support should they wish to upgrade their systems. I really think ASRock needs to take a close look at their entire FW process to ensure customers can upgrade without problems and without being told to continue using FW that has security vulnerabilities. |

I know a lot of time has passed, but I'm coming back to my thread here.
I'm still on BIOS 2.03 and the system is stable and seems to be running fine. However, boot times are fairly long in comparison to previous builds and for multiple reasons I would like to update the BIOS. I'm curious if this is recommended or not, and is there a preferred method that minimizes the risk, and is there a recovery process if it does not go well. I don't want my PC to be down for days waiting on another mobo to arrive. Thanks for any advice or tips. |

Hello! My recommendation is to not use the flashback method, and also to not use any Windows based firmware update. First of all, backup your personal data! To update the BIOS, follow these steps: 1. Download the latest non-beta BIOS (in this case: 3.16), and extract it from the archive. 2. Format a USB flash drive as FAT32. 3. Put the BIOS file on the USB flash drive. 4. Restart PC/ Hit multiple times the <Delete> key. 5. Enter into the BIOS menu. 6. Check & find Q-Flash (look into the manual, if you can't find it). 7. You'll see the BIOS file being visible. 8. Hit "Update"/ Agree/ Yes. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS! Let the PC restart (it might restart more than once). NOTE: After the BIOS update, your BIOS settings are at default. You should manually load the EXPO profile for your RAM! I hope this helps... |
