My son has an X570 Phantom Gaming 4 motherboard with 32gb of memory and an AMD Ryzen 5 2600 chip. (the system was working fine)
For Christmas, I bought him a Ryzen 7 5700x proc. After installing it, the pc would not boot. It was throwing red led's on the ram light. I purchased 32gb of Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz memory, and it still will not boot. The board is up to the latest firmware. I have reset the CMOS as well, and no luck. Can anyone help? TIA, Tom |

Just to clarify, the BIOS has been flashed to the latest 5.50, and it still does not boot.

bios needs to be updated with ryzen 3000 or above, its written in bios description there is a workaround https://download.asrock.com/TSD/Ryzen5000/X570%20Phantom%20Gaming%204.pdf Edited by kerberos_20 - 09 Jan 2024 at 8:07am |

I don't understand your reply. I already have the BIOS flashed to the most recent version according to the AS Rock page for the X570 Phantom Gaming 4 web page. https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X570%20Phantom%20Gaming%204/index.asp#BIOS
5.50 is the latest BIOS version. |

When using a 2000 or older series CPU the BIOS flash does not work correctly.
You need to update using the workaround kerberos_20 shared. The system should still function with the original 2000 series CPU so you should be able to follow the workaround to sort it out. If not, try opening a support ticket with ASRock: https://tw.asrock.com/events/tsd.asp |

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. It took me bit to figure out that the original way I flashed the BIOS was not working, and I needed to use your posted method. The CPU is working after the alternate BIOS flash process. Thanks again!

Thank you very much. A similar problem arose and could only be solved using this method. I did not even imagine that updating the BIOS in the standard way would not bring results. Thanks again.

I can confirm that the same process worked for an X570M Pro4 board too, so I was able to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 2600 (Pinnacle Ridge) to a Ryzen 7 5700X (Vermeer).
To recap: I investigated compatibility before upgrading, so I saw v3.70 was the minimum BIOS version and flashed the board with BIOS v3.70 beforehand by loading firmware from USB flashdrive via the regular BIOS method. Verification in the BIOS and with HWinfo suggested v3.70 was installed but after installing the new CPU the board was not booting/working at all. After running the BIOS upgrade process as described in the document https://download.asrock.com/TSD/Ryzen5000/X570%20Phantom%20Gaming%204.pdf (with the proper v3.70 X570M Pro4 BIOS) the board was functioning with the new processor (as well as the old one) now! Note: The whole process with the tool https://download.asrock.com/TSD/Desktop/FAQ/BIOSUPDATETOOL.zip took quite a bit longer than via the 'regular' BIOS method, and the fs0: command from the steps in the previous document turned out to be fs4: in my case. |
